Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the Tiguan R-Line in India on April 14, 2025. Europe’s most popular SUV is set to hit Indian roads as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). It offers performance-oriented upgrades like an engine that’s tuned to make more power and sporty tweaks to its design. The Tiguan R-Line is expected to appeal to buyers looking for something a little more dynamically accomplished in the premium SUV segment.
Design

With a more aggressive front bumper, larger air intakes, and sleek LED headlights, it stands out from its standard counterpart. Gloss black accents and connected light strips give it a modern touch, while the connected LED taillights and diamond-shaped accents add a touch of sophistication.
Interior

Inside, the cabin is designed for comfort. It comes with sports seats and a three-spoke steering wheel giving it a sporty feel, while the 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system offer modern amenities. It’s practical and spacious.
Powertrain Options

Internationally, the VW Tiguan R Line is offered with multiple engine options – a 1.5L turbo-petrol mild-hybrid, a 1.5L turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid, a 2.0L turbo-petrol and a 2.0L TDI diesel.
For the Indian market, Volkswagen will most likely offer the 2.0 TSI engine paired to a 7-speed DSG with 4Motion all-wheel drive. It comes with VW’s new MQB Evo platform.
Safety
The Tiguan R-Line comes equipped with 6 airbags, electronic parking brake functionality, and tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS). Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) may also be included, providing features like lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control. This remains to be seen, as it is offered globally but VW might not offer it in the Indian variant. It scored a 5-Star Euro NCAP crash test rating.
Market Positioning

With an expected price of around ₹50 lakh, the Tiguan R-Line enters a market dominated by the Hilux-derived Toyota Fortuner, bought solely for its looks and road presence. It could attract who are looking for a premium, sporty car that’s got more modern and comfortable interiors and feels much better to drive than the segment leader.
