Volvo Cars has formally unveiled the EX60, a fully electric mid-size luxury SUV designed to sit between its EX40 and EX90 models and replace the traditional XC60 ICE SUV with an electric alternative. The debut marks one of the most important launches for the Swedish brand as it pivots deeper into EVs and electrified mobility.

Built on Volvo’s new SPA3 EV-dedicated platform, the EX60 is claimed to be engineered to emphasise high efficiency, strong real-world range with some modern technology, signalling Volvo’s confidence in ramping up EV adoption among mainstream luxury buyers.

Range, Powertrains & Performance: EV Issues Addressed ?

One of the most striking elements of the Volvo EX60 electric SUV is its claimed driving range, up to 810 KM WLTP on a single charge in its top configuration, making it one of the longest-range EVs Volvo has ever marketed.

The SUV will be sold in multiple powertrain variants:

  • P6 (rear‑wheel drive): Around 374–375 HP with an 80 kWh battery and a WLTP range of roughly 620 KM.
  • P10 (all‑wheel drive): Around 503–510 HP with a 91 kWh battery and up to about 660–720 KM WLTP range.
  • P12 (all‑wheel drive, flagship): Around 670–680 HP with a 112 kWh battery and a WLTP range of up to 810 KM, the longest in the EX60 line‑up.

This range and varied powertrain lineup are part of Volvo’s strategy to appeal to both daily urban commuters and long-distance EV users, a challenge many legacy automakers have struggled with in recent EV rollouts.

Fast Charging & EV Architecture

The EX60 also introduces fast-charging capability and advanced electrical architecture aimed at reducing range anxiety, a major buyer consideration in EV adoption. According to Volvo’s specifications, the SUV can add up to around 340 KM of range in about 10 minutes on a suitably powerful DC fast charger, thanks to its 800‑volt electrical system and battery tech.

Moreover, the SPA3 platform uses innovations such as mega-casting and cell-to-body battery integration, which is claimed to improve structural rigidity, reduce weight and enhance range and efficiency across various weather conditions.

Interior Tech & AI Integration

Inside, the EX60 gets infotainment with Google Gemini AI integrated into the system, making it one of the first EVs globally to offer this level of voice-assisted intelligence. This feature, combined with other computing enhancements.

While many EVs focus on range and power, Volvo’s inclusion of premium audio, advanced digital displays and AI-driven assistance underlines how the EX60 is being marketed as a “premium” tech-forward SUV.

Market Timing & Strategic Significance

The Volvo EX60 electric SUV debuts at a time when the global EV market is in flux: many legacy automakers are refining their portfolios, charging infrastructure is expanding, and consumers are weighing EV practicality against advancing traditional models. The EX60’s combination of range, design, technology and fast charging aims to directly address common adoption barriers.

Production will begin at Volvo’s Torslanda plant in Sweden in Spring 2026, with deliveries in Europe scheduled for summer 2026 and later roll-outs in the U.S. and other global markets. Pricing in key markets, such as Germany, starts at €62,990 (around $74,000), close to the cost of comparable plug‑in hybrids, signalling Volvo’s intent to make this fully electric SUV competitively positioned with price‑aware rivals.

What This Means For Buyers & the EV Segment

For buyers, the EX60 represents a step forward in EV practicality. It also reflects the broader industry transition from internal combustion engines toward electric mobility frameworks, particularly in segments where performance and range are critical selling points.

The addition of Google Gemini AI, advanced fast-charging capability, and Volvo’s refined EV architecture suggests the EX60 should receive a warm welcome from the buyers.
