Volvo-EX40-Exterior-Rear-Left-Quarter

Volvo has revealed facelifts for its entire 40 Series range, comprising the XC40, EX40 and EC40. The updated models receive subtle exterior changes, new interior options, upgraded technology and additional safety features.

However, Volvo has not confirmed whether the facelifted EC40 will return to India. The EC40 remains the only 40 Series model currently listed for the Indian market, while Volvo has already delisted the EX40 and discontinued the XC40 in India.

Exterior Design Updates

All three models receive revised Matrix LED headlamps with Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer DRLs. Additionally, the front bumpers get a cleaner design, while the XC40 receives a new grille. The electric EX40 and EC40 instead feature blanked-off front sections.

At the rear, the XC40 and EX40 get redesigned LED tail-lamps, tailgates and bumpers. Meanwhile, all three models receive new alloy wheel designs. The XC40 can now be equipped with 18- to 20-INCH wheels, while Black Edition versions add black exterior elements.

Interior & Infotainment

The biggest cabin update comes in the form of a larger 11.2-INCH infotainment touchscreen. It runs Volvo’s latest operating system and integrates Google Gemini, allowing drivers to interact with the in-car assistant using natural conversations.

Furthermore, Volvo has introduced new upholstery and interior decor options. The company also plans to support the three models with over-the-air updates, allowing their software and features to improve over time.

Safety & ADAS

Volvo has expanded the standard safety package across the 40 Series range. All three models can respond to potential collisions in real time using automatic emergency steering and braking.

Additionally, buyers can opt for Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera. Therefore, the updated models combine Volvo’s existing safety focus with more advanced driver assistance technology.

XC40 Petrol Powertrain

The XC40 continues with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine offered in two states of tune. Lower-spec versions produce 163 HP and 265 NM, while higher-spec variants develop 197 HP and 300 NM.

Power goes to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. As a result, the petrol XC40 continues to offer a conventional powertrain alongside Volvo’s electric 40 Series models.

EX40 & EC40 Electric Powertrains

The EX40 and EC40 continue with battery options ranging from 66 KWH to 79 KWH. Depending on the variant, Volvo offers either a rear-mounted electric motor or a dual-motor setup with all-wheel drive.

The most powerful configuration produces up to 442 HP and 670 NM. Meanwhile, the EX40 offers a WLTP range of up to 575 KM, while the EC40 achieves up to 584 KM.

Prices In India

Volvo has not announced India-specific pricing or launch details for the facelifted models. The EC40 remains the only 40 Series model currently available in India, with the existing model priced at Rs 59 lakh ex-showroom.

India Launch & Availability

The facelifted EC40 could be the most relevant model for India, although Volvo has yet to confirm its arrival. Meanwhile, the EX40 has been removed from Volvo’s India website, while the XC40 exited the Indian market in 2023.

Therefore, the updated 40 Series models are currently confirmed for global markets, but their India-specific availability remains unclear.

Verdict

The facelifted Volvo 40 Series brings evolutionary exterior changes but more substantial technology and safety updates. The larger infotainment system, Google Gemini integration and expanded driver assistance package add to the models’ technology offering.

However, India-bound plans remain uncertain. For now, the EC40 is the only model from the range with an established presence in India, although Volvo has not confirmed whether the facelift will arrive here.
