Volvo is gearing up to introduce its EX30 electric SUV to the Indian market by the end of 2025. The company is also considering assembling the EX30 locally through the CKD route. This move aligns with Volvo’s strategy to launch a new EV in India annually.

“We have been clear about bringing one EV every year and will continue to do so. By the end of 2025, the EX30 will be introduced in India. We are finalizing our feasibility study to go through the local assembly route,” said Jyoti Malhotra, MD, Volvo Cars India.

Volvo EX30 – Most Affordable Luxury Electric SUV?

The EX30 is Volvo’s smallest SUV and their new entry-level electric model. It is based on Geely’s SEA platform, shared with the Jeep Avenger EV. The EX30 in its top spec comes with a 69 kWh NMC (Nickel-Magnesium-Cobalt) battery pack & offers up to 474 KM of range. It also comes in a dual-motor configuration offering all-wheel drive & 427 BHP. Volvo bringing this car to India through the CKD route could help them price it aggressively against other competitors such as the BMW iX1.

Design

The Volvo EX30 showcases Volvo’s modern design language with minimalistic styling. As an EV, it sports a closed-off grille to improve aerodynamics and range. Volvo’s iconic Thor hammer headlight design is present completing the front fascia. The rear has connected taillamps and long vertical lighting elements reminiscent of the EX90. A small roof-mounted spoiler adds a sporty touch to this luxury electric crossover. It features balanced proportions and an eye-pleasing design.

Interior

Volvo has tried to maximise the real estate on offer, with a focus on comfort and space. A large 12.3-inch infotainment display dominates the dashboard serving as the hub for most operations. Sadly, there are very few physical controls and buttons. The infotainment display is customisable and easy-to-use & works seamlessly with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay.

Volvo places a strong emphasis on sustainability in the EX30’s interior. The upholstery, carpets, and door panels incorporate renewable and recycled materials.

Launch & Pricing

Volvo is a relatively niche player by luxury carmaker standards too, but their upcoming EX30 has the potential to revive their fortunes. Offering good value-for-money, performance, and undercutting the German trio could help with growth and sales. The EX30 is expected to be unveiled in October 2025.
