Volkswagen has expanded the Tayron lineup in India with the launch of the new Life trim. Priced at Rs 41.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the new variant undercuts the range-topping Tayron R-Line by Rs 5 lakh. While it misses out on some premium styling elements and the third-row seats, it retains the same powerful turbo-petrol engine, all-wheel-drive system, and most of the premium features.
Moreover, Volkswagen has adopted a strategy similar to Skoda by offering a more affordable five-seater version of its flagship SUV.

Exterior Design & Styling

The Volkswagen Tayron Life features a cleaner and more understated design than the sporty R-Line. It replaces the gloss black exterior accents with body-coloured and silver-finished elements, giving the SUV a more elegant appearance.

However, the Life trim retains the slim LED headlights, illuminated Volkswagen logo, full-width LED light bar, roof spoiler, and connected LED tail-lamps. It also rides on new 18-inch alloy wheels, which are one inch smaller than those on the R-Line.

Interior & Features

Inside, the Tayron Life shares most of its cabin with the R-Line. However, Volkswagen removes the third-row seats, making it a five-seater SUV instead of a seven-seater.

The SUV continues to offer a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone automatic climate control, powered front seats with ventilation and massage functions, dual wireless smartphone chargers, a 360-degree camera, nine airbags, and Level 2 ADAS.

Meanwhile, the infotainment system uses a 12.9-inch touchscreen instead of the R-Line’s larger 15-inch display. Similarly, the Life trim gets an eight-speaker audio system, whereas the R-Line features an 11-speaker Harman Kardon setup.

Engine & Performance

Volkswagen has not made any mechanical changes to the Tayron Life. It continues to use the brand’s EA888 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 204 HP and 320 NM of torque.

Furthermore, Volkswagen pairs the engine with a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. The gearbox sends power to all four wheels through the brand’s all-wheel-drive system, ensuring strong performance across different driving conditions.

Dimensions

The Tayron measures 4,792 MM in length and offers a wheelbase of 2,789 MM. As a result, the SUV provides generous cabin space despite adopting a five-seat layout.

Moreover, removing the third row also increases luggage capacity, making the Life trim a more practical option for buyers who prioritise cargo space over additional seating.

Prices In India

Volkswagen has positioned the new Life trim below the R-Line, making the Tayron more accessible to buyers.

Variant Price (Ex-Showroom)
Volkswagen Tayron Life Rs 41.99 Lakh
Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Rs 46.99 Lakh

Rivals In India

The Volkswagen Tayron Life competes with premium three-row and five-seat SUVs such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, Toyota Fortuner, and MG Gloster. However, its combination of a turbo-petrol engine, all-wheel drive, and premium features helps it stand out in the segment.

Conclusion

The launch of the Volkswagen Tayron Life gives buyers a more affordable entry point into the Tayron lineup. Although it loses the sporty R-Line styling package and third-row seating, it retains the same powerful engine, all-wheel-drive system, and a long list of premium features.

Moreover, the Rs 5 lakh price difference makes the Life trim an attractive option for customers who prefer a spacious five-seat SUV without compromising on performance or technology.
