Volkswagen has confirmed plans to launch a new sub-four-metre compact SUV in India. The upcoming model will share its platform and powertrain with the Skoda Kylaq, while Volkswagen will give it a distinct design and positioning. The new SUV will also mark Volkswagen’s return to the high-volume sub-four-metre segment.

Volkswagen has secured global approval for the new compact SUV project. The programme reportedly carries an investment of around 25 million euros, or approximately Rs 275 crore. Therefore, the project represents an important step in Volkswagen’s wider India expansion.
The new SUV will sit below the Taigun in Volkswagen’s India range. It will also bring the brand back into a segment it left after the Polo and Ameo ended production. Volkswagen expects the model to attract buyers looking for a compact SUV with a premium brand image.
