The Volkswagen Tiguan R Line will set foot on Indian shores on April 14th, with market introduction expected this month at approximately Rs 50 Lakh (ex-showroom). This new model brings performance-focused modifications and much-needed tech upgrades to the Tiguan.
Under the hood, the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line houses a potent 2.0L turbo-petrol engine producing 204 BHP and 320 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through a 7-speed DSG gearbox connected to Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system. The car accelerates from 0-100 KM/H in just 7.1 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 229 KM/H.
The exterior of the Tiguan R Line has connected LED headlights that create a striking front fascia with a large air dam featuring a mesh pattern and silver lip. The profile is marked by pronounced creases above the fenders and large wing mirrors. It rides on 19-inch ‘Coventry’ alloy wheels with Hankook tires. At the rear, drivers following the Tiguan R Line will notice a large LED lightbar with a smoked effect and a roof spoiler that makes the car look sporty.
Inside, the Volkswagen Tiguan R Line offers 3-zone climate control, wireless charging, 30-color ambient lighting for a personalized interior atmosphere, and stainless steel pedals. It also comes with a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Overhead, a panoramic sunroof brings natural light into the cabin. The occupants are treated to massaging sports seats that combine support during spirited driving with comfort for longer journeys.
Being a German car, safety receives proper attention with 9 airbags in the cabin. The Tiguan R Line comes equipped with a Level 2 ADAS suite with 21 functions; interestingly, it’s the first vehicle from VW/Skoda and even Audi to offer ADAS functionality in India. Additional safety measures include hill start assist and hill descent control for challenging terrain. It earned a high 5-star Euro NCAP crash test rating. For parking scenarios, Park Assist Plus technology enables autonomous parking without driver intervention.
The new Tiguan R-Line is a fresh, competitive offering in the premium crossover market. The car will be imported and assembled locally as a CKD. It brings with it segment-leading performance, safety and dynamics with modern and comfortable interiors. Let’s see how Volkswagen prices it.
