Volkswagen Golf GTI Pre-Launch Bookings Closed In India

Volkswagen launched the legendary Golf GTI in India, pre-bookings of which commenced earlier this month on May 5, 2025. The renowned hatchback will reach India via the CBU route and will be available in limited quantities. In this regard, the carmaker has now closed the pre-bookings of the Golf GTI as all the allocated units that have been brought to India have been spoken for.

Will India See More Units?

Although the automaker has not yet responded, it is unclear if Volkswagen will choose to import more Golf GTIs into our nation. With the T-Roc, Volkswagen acted similarly. The 2,500 T-Rocs that were shipped to India swiftly sold out, and Volkswagen introduced a new batch of T-Rocs in 2021 in an effort to appease prospective buyers. If there is a legitimate need, we hope VW will launch a similar program with the Golf GTI.

Powertrain Information

A 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with the following specs will power the Volkswagen Golf GTI:

Engine2-litre turbo-petrol engine
Power265 PS
Torque370 Nm
Transmission7-speed DCT*
DrivetrainFront-wheel-drive (FWD)

The forthcoming Golf GTI embraces its GTI identity by achieving a 0-100 kmph run in 5.9 seconds and a peak speed of 250 kmph that is electronically restricted. For a more engaging driving experience, it also has mechanical improvements over the conventional Golf, including a faster steering rack, sharper brakes, and a firmer suspension.

Expected Price And Rivals

The Volkswagen Golf GTI will compete with the Mini Cooper S in India and is anticipated to retail for around Rs 52 lakh (ex-showroom).
