Volkswagen has officially discontinued the standard Tiguan SUV in India, paving the way for the upcoming launch of the sportier next-generation Tiguan R-Line. It will serve as the brand’s halo product alongside the Golf GTI.
Outgoing Tiguan

The previous iteration of the Volkswagen Tiguan, launched in December 2021, was priced at ₹32 lakh (ex-showroom) and was available exclusively in a fully-loaded variant known as the Tiguan Elegance. The last recorded price for this model was ₹38.17 lakh (ex-showroom) before its discontinuation. The Tiguan was equipped with a 2.0L TSI turbo petrol engine, generating 190 BHP and 320 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission powering all four wheels via Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system. It was one of the most fun-to-drive SUVs in its segment.
What’s New?

As Volkswagen prepares to introduce the Tiguan R-Line on April 14, 2025, it is anticipated that this new model will feature enhancements over its predecessor. The Tiguan R-Line is expected to deliver an increased power output of 204 BHP while retaining the same 320 Nm of torque. This vehicle will also carry forward Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. It also comes with several interior and exterior improvements such as a more modern infotainment system, better materials and a more upmarket design.
Conclusion

Volkswagen is trying to position its brand as a premium option by introducing global halo products in India. The Tiguan R-Line will be launched as a completely built unit (CBU), resulting in higher pricing compared to locally assembled models. Starting price for the new model could be around ₹50 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the Tiguan R-Line are already open.
