Vietnamese automaker VinFast has confirmed its India launch schedule with two compact electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, set to debut on September 6. Pricing details will be announced on launch day, with deliveries expected to begin later this year.

The VF 6 is a compact SUV designed for urban use. The VF 7 is positioned as a mid-size SUV with a longer wheelbase and a larger size. Both are designed with sharp exterior lines, full-width LED lighting signatures, and minimalist cabin layouts. The VF 7 carries a sportier roofline and larger wheels, distinguishing it from the smaller VF 6.

Powertrain & Range Figures

Internationally, the VF 6 is available in two trims with outputs ranging from 174 BHP to 201 BHP. Battery capacity offers up to 399 KM of claimed WLTP range. The VF 7, also sold in dual trims abroad, produces between 201 BHP and 349 BHP, with driving ranges estimated at up to 450 KM WLTP. VinFast has not confirmed whether the same specifications will carry over to the Indian market.

Manufacturing & Market Strategy

VinFast previously announced an investment exceeding Rs 16,000 Crore to set up a production facility in Tamil Nadu. The plant will handle both vehicle assembly and battery pack localisation in phases. Local manufacturing is central to VinFast’s pricing strategy in India, aiming to compete with established players such as Tata, Mahindra, and Hyundai in the growing EV SUV segment.

Conclusion

The VF 6 will compete against compact EV SUVs like the MG ZS EV and the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV. The VF 7, with its larger footprint and performance-oriented variant, will challenge higher-priced rivals, including BYD Atto 3. Expected pricing is likely to fall within Rs 20–30 Lakh (ex-showroom), depending on localisation and battery sourcing.
