VinFast Minio Green Compact EV Design Patented In India

1 min read

VinFast has taken a legal step by filing a design patent in India for its compact electric hatchback, the Minio Green. This action suggests the company could be laying the groundwork for an India-bound version, though it does not confirm a launch. As of now, no official statement has been made on when or if this model will be sold locally. If approved for production, the Minio Green could mark VinFast’s first entry into India’s micro-EV space.

Compact EV With City-Focused Design

The Minio Green is a compact, three-door EV that uses tall-boy proportions and minimalist styling to offer a no-nonsense urban solution. Measuring around 3,090 MM in length, it is slightly longer but narrower and taller than the MG Comet EV, potentially positioning it as a rival in India’s growing mini-EV category. Its exterior features include round LED headlights, basic steel wheels, flap-type door handles, and blacked-out tail sections. These choices emphasise practicality over premium styling, targeting customers who prioritise maneuverability, an important factor for congested Indian cities.

Minimalist Cabin, Simple Mechanics

Inside, the Minio Green adopts a pared-down design aimed at functionality. It lacks an infotainment touchscreen, featuring only two AC vents, a digital driver display, a basic two-spoke steering wheel, and manual controls. The four-seat cabin includes basic FM audio and minimal trim, reflecting a focus on affordability and utility. Power comes from a 14.7 kWh battery, offering a claimed range up to 170 KM (NEDC) and powered by a rear-mounted motor delivering 27 BHP and 65 NM, with a top speed around 80 KM/H. While modest, these figures make it suitable for short commutes, where low running costs outweigh performance.

What The Patent Could Mean For India

This step indicates that VinFast is evaluating the Minio Green as a potential option for India’s electric fleet or supermini markets. If released here, it would join the growing sub-₹10 lakh EV segment, currently led by the MG Comet. Given India’s government push for EV adoption through subsidies and tax benefits, this model could also serve as a strategic foothold for VinFast to scale its lineup in the future.
