Hai Phong, Vietnam: As VinFast prepares to strengthen its presence in global markets, including India, we had the opportunity to visit the It’s main manufacturing facility in Hai Phong, Vietnam. Officially referred to as VinFast’s “mother factory”, the sprawling complex serves as the backbone of the brand’s manufacturing operations, producing everything from electric cars to two-wheelers and buses.
The facility, which was inaugurated in 2019, is where VinFast builds the majority of its products before they are shipped to markets around the world. While the company started out with internal combustion engine models, it has been a pure electric vehicle manufacturer since around 2022, making this factory the centre of its EV ambitions.
Production Capacity Continues To Grow

The Hai Phong plant has an annual production capacity of around 350,000 vehicles. Of this, up to 250,000 are passenger cars, while the facility can also manufacture 50,000 electric two-wheelers and around 500 buses every year.
During the visit, VinFast also shared details about its expanding global manufacturing footprint. Alongside the Hai Phong facility, the company now has factories in Ha Tinh, India and Indonesia, taking its combined annual production capacity to approximately 380,000 vehicles.
While the plant is capable of producing far more vehicles, actual output has been steadily increasing. VinFast manufactured around 87,000 cars during 2024, with production rising significantly to roughly 120,000 cars in 2025. The facility is currently configured to build as many as 11 different vehicle models.
Manufacturing With Complete Traceability

One of the biggest highlights of the factory tour was the extensive use of Industry 4.0 manufacturing technologies. Virtually every machine, tool and production process is connected through a network of sensors that continuously monitor operations across the assembly line.
This level of connectivity allows VinFast to track every individual component throughout the manufacturing process. The company can identify exactly where a specific part was installed, when it was fitted, and the particular vehicle that received it. This traceability not only helps with quality control but also makes future service campaigns and after-sales support significantly more efficient.
Extensive In-House Manufacturing

Unlike many manufacturers that source several major components from suppliers, VinFast manufactures a substantial portion of its electric vehicles in-house. The company produces battery packs, Battery Management Systems (BMS), vehicle chassis and many of the onboard computers used in its vehicles within the Hai Phong facility itself.
LFP Batteries Across The Range

Every VinFast electric vehicle currently uses Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery technology. The company also explained how its battery supply chain is structured. Battery cells used in its passenger cars and electric two-wheelers are manufactured at VinFast’s Ha Tinh facility before being assembled into battery packs. However, battery cells for its electric buses are sourced from external partners.
Additionally, while none of VinFast’s electric vehicles have yet reached the end of their lifecycle, the company has begun the process of establishing partnerships to develop battery recycling solutions for the future, ensuring a sustainable approach to end-of-life battery management.
Growing Global Presence

Beyond manufacturing, VinFast has also been expanding its global support infrastructure. The company currently operates approximately 771 service workshops worldwide along with more than 15,000 charging stations across various markets.
The company also shared its latest sales figures, revealing that it sold approximately 220,458 vehicles globally in 2025. Among its product portfolio, the Limo7 range, comprising the MPV7 and Limo Green models, emerged as the brand’s best-selling offering. It was followed by the VF3, VF5, VF6 and VF7 in terms of sales volume.
Range Extender Technology Under Development

While VinFast remains committed to battery electric vehicles, the company confirmed that it is also working on range extender technology.
Rather than driving the wheels directly like a conventional hybrid, these systems will use an internal combustion engine solely to generate electricity and recharge the battery pack. The objective is to increase overall driving range without changing the fundamental electric driving experience.
India & Indonesia Facilities Currently Focus On Cars

VinFast also provided an update on its newer manufacturing plants in India and Indonesia. At present, both facilities are dedicated to producing passenger cars. However, the company indicated that production of electric two-wheelers is also expected to begin at these plants in the future.
Final Thoughts
Walking through VinFast’s Hai Phong facility offered an insight into how quickly the Vietnamese manufacturer has scaled its manufacturing operations in just a few years. From extensive in-house production and Industry 4.0-enabled manufacturing to a growing global factory network and charging ecosystem, the company is investing heavily in building a vertically integrated electric vehicle business.
With production continuing to ramp up and new facilities coming online in markets such as India and Indonesia, VinFast appears focused on expanding its global footprint.
