VinFast, a carmaker from Vietnam, is getting ready to launch its electric vehicles (EVs) in India. One of their models, the VF7 SUV, was recently seen being tested in Mumbai. The company is aiming to release it before the 2025 holiday season. This move is part of VinFast’s plan to become a big player in India’s fast-growing EV market.

Manufacturing Cars In India
VinFasts plans for investment is quoted as ₹4,000 crore (about $480 million) in the general Indian media, and the site is Thoothukudi. This plant should be up and running by the end of June 2025 and will start off assembling cars from imported kits. At first, it will be able to build about 50,000 cars a year, but that number could go up to 150,000 if needed. The company also wants to work with Indian suppliers, especially for battery parts, to bring down costs and make the cars more locally made (aiming for 30–40% local parts).

More Electric Cars Are Coming
Besides the VF7, VinFast has more EVs planned for India. After the VF7, they’ll roll out the smaller VF6 SUV, which is said to be good for city driving. Then in 2026, they’ll bring in the VF3, VF5, and even a big 7-seater SUV, probably called the VF9. These cars will target different types of drivers, from those who want small city cars to families needing more space.
By starting with more premium models like the VF7 and VF6, the company wants to set itself apart as a high-end EV brand. VinFast is setting up dealerships and service centres in major cities, getting ready to compete with big companies like Mahindra and BYD.
