India’s Electric Dream: EV Fleet Projected To Grow To 9% by FY30

In the Indian vehicle industry the penetration of electric vehicles has been growth significantly over the last few years. However, electric cars still lag behind e-two-wheelers in popularity. But the situation is likely to change over the next years, as EV fleet projected to grow 9 percent by FY30.

Mahindra BE 6 & Mahindra XEV 9e

Mahindra launches its two EVs that is Mahindra BE 6 and Mahindra XEV 9e, in November 2024, with starting prices of Rs 18.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom), respectively. The first phase of the test drive has already been done in Delhi NCR, Mumbai MMR, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. The second phase has been started on January 25 in Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Coimbatore, Goa, Howrah, Indore, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Surat, Vadodara, Chandigarh Tricity. The third phase of test drive for both vehicles will be available across India, starting from February 7.

Maruti Vitara Electric

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV will launch in March 2025. It will be more enhanced and will have a modern interior look than other Maruti Suzuki cars. It is the first-born electric vehicle from the automaker and showcases the design language Maruti will take for its future models. The e Vitara will be offered with two battery packs. It has been unveiled in India at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. The electric SUV will be retailed via the premium Nexa chain.

• Single electric motor

• Power 143bhp & 173bh

Tata Harrier EV

The Tata Harrier EV will launch in March or April. It is one of the most anticipated upcoming cars in India. This 5 seater monocoque SUV is engineered on the OMEGA Architecture, derived from the legendary Land Rover D8 architecture and developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover.

Specs:

• Based on Tata’s advance Acti.ev architecture

• 75kWh battery pack

• Dual electric motor with AWD (All Wheel Drive) system

• Expected range of up to 600km in higher spec version

• Will rival the Mahindra XEV 9e in the electric SUV segment

BYD Sealion 7 Unveiled at Auto Expo 2025

BYD’s Sealion 7 makes its debut in India by expanding Chinese presence in Indian electric industry. Its market launch will be in March. It comes into two variants Premium RWD and Performance AWD.

• 82.5kWh LFP Blade battery

• Range: 567km (RWD) 542km (AWD)

• Power: 313bhp (RWD) 530bhp (AWD)

• Dimensions: 4830mm (L) × 1925mm (W) × 1620mm (H)

MG Cyberster

MG Cyberster will be the first and most affordable electric sportscar in the country. It will be sold and serviced exclusively through MG’s high-end showrooms rather than regular dealerships. It will be launched in March 2025

• 77kWh battery pack

• Dual electric motor with AWD system

•  510bhp power, 725Nm torque

• 0-100kmph in 3.2 seconds

• 580km range ( CLTC claimed)

• Unique features: two doors, an open-top & scissors doors.

MG M9

MG has started pre-bookings for the M9 in India, with deliveries expected to begin in April. The price is anticipated to be around Rs 65 lakh. It will be available exclusively at selected MG showrooms.

– 90 kWh lithium-ion battery pack

– Power output: 254 bhp (front-wheel drive)

– Claimed range: 430 km (WLTP)

– 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission

– Expected seating capacity: 7 or 8
