Toyota has updated the Rumion MPV by equipping all its variants with six airbags as standard. Earlier, this safety feature was available only for the higher trims, but with the new update, even the base models now come with dual front, side, and curtain airbags. This change reflects the growing emphasis on safety in India, where stricter regulations and consumer awareness have pushed manufacturers to enhance occupant protection. The move also aligns the Rumion with Toyota’s broader global policy of prioritising safety across its product range.

Market Position & Pricing
The Rumion has been positioned as a family-friendly MPV in India, sharing its platform and mechanicals with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. By making six airbags standard like the Ertiga, Toyota has added a stronger value proposition for buyers in the compact MPV space. Its top-spec V trim also gets a tyre-pressure monitoring system.
Here’s a look at the latest prices of the 2025 Toyota Rumion (post GST 2.0 revision):
| Variant | Ex-Showroom Price (₹ lakh) |

Powertrain & Interior
Under the hood, there are no changes. The Rumion continues to be offered with a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine, which produces 103 HP and 137 NM of torque. It comes with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed AT gearbox. In the CNG form, which is only available on the base S trim and with a 5-speed manual, it produces 88 HP and 121 NM of torque.

The Toyota Rumion features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with an Arkamys audio system, steering-mounted controls, and climate control. It also gets Toyota’s i-Connect suite, offering smartwatch compatibility, voice assistant support, and remote lock/unlock. Higher trims add projector headlamps, LED tail-lamps, cruise control, manual air conditioning, and keyless entry. Safety includes six airbags standard across all variants, along with vehicle stability control (VSC), hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

Broader Context Of Safety In India
The introduction of six standard airbags in the Rumion also ties into a larger industry trend. The Indian government has been urging automakers to improve vehicle safety and has introduced programs like Bharat NCAP to test and rate cars sold domestically. In this context, Toyota’s decision helps the Rumion remain competitive. With the latest safety update, the MPV now offers a more balanced mix of affordability and occupant protection, which could help boost its sales.
