Toyota Kirloskar Motor has issued a voluntary recall for 11,529 units of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder after identifying a potential issue with the fuel level indication system. The affected SUVs were manufactured between December 9, 2024, and April 29, 2025. Few days back, Maruti Suzuki too had issued a recall for the Grand Vitara over a similar issue. This falls under a proactive campaign aimed at inspecting and replacing faulty parts within the combination meter. According to Toyota, the fuel gauge in certain vehicles may not accurately reflect the amount of fuel in the tank, which could mislead drivers about remaining range. While the company has not reported any major safety incidents related to the issue, the recall has been initiated to maintain reliability and uphold quality standards.

Inspection & Free Replacement For Owners

Toyota has confirmed that authorised dealer workshops will carry out inspections free of cost and replace the combination meter if required. The process involves checking whether the digital fuel level readings and warning indicators match actual tank readings under various tank conditions. Customers whose vehicles are part of the recall will receive a direct communication from Toyota dealers, explaining the steps and scheduling details. Owners can also verify their vehicle status by contacting the company directly. Since the combination meter is a central component of the dashboard, the replacement may take some time. But the procedure itself is straightforward and does not involve any mechanical work on the engine or fuel system. With more than 11,000 units affected, workshops will likely see higher footfall in the coming weeks, so customers may need to plan their visits accordingly.

Why Accurate Fuel Readings Are Essential

A malfunctioning fuel gauge can lead to practical challenges for drivers, particularly in situations when accurate range estimation is important. If the gauge shows higher level than what is actually present, the vehicle may run out of fuel without warning. On the other hand, a lower reading than the true fuel level can lead to frequent unnecessary refuelling stops. Ensuring accurate fuel information helps drivers plan refuelling better and reduces the risk of unexpected breakdowns. This recall aims to restore full functionality and provide a solution at no cost for Hyryder users.
