Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported sales of 31,091 units in September 2025, marking a 16 percent year-on-year growth compared to the 26,847 units sold in the same month last year. September 2025 sales data includes 27,089 units sold in the domestic market, while the remaining 4,002 units were exported to international markets. The latest figures highlight the company’s steady rise in the Indian passenger vehicle market. However, it declined by 9 percent month-on-month compared to August 2025 sales of 34,236 units. The year-on-year growth reflects improving demand in both urban and semi-urban regions. September’s performance also added to the company’s cumulative gains for the financial year so far, positioning Toyota firmly among the top players in India’s growing automotive sector.

Contribution Of Key Models
The sales boost is closely tied to the performance of Toyota’s established models such as the Innova HyCross and Crysta, Fortuner, and Hyryder. The Innova Hycross continued to be one of the leading contributors, benefiting from strong acceptance in the family and fleet buyer segments. Meanwhile, the Fortuner maintained its appeal in the premium SUV category, while the Hyryder sustained steady traction, majorly due to its hybrid powertrain. The Urban Cruiser Taisor, introduced earlier this year, showed signs of gradually strengthening demand, indicating that Toyota’s strategy of offering a wide mix across price brackets is paying off.

Market Context & Competition
Toyota’s growth in September 2025 came during a period when several automakers reported modest increases, while a few saw flat or negative numbers. This was majorly due to the wait of revised GST rates, causing uncertainty among purchasers. Strong demand for hybrid vehicles (HyCross, Hyryder, Camry) and SUVs gave Toyota an edge, allowing it to capture momentum. The current year’s growth builds upon TKM’s record-breaking performance in FY2025. The company surpassed the 300,000-unit mark for the first time, reaching sales of 309,000 units. This marked Toyota’s strongest annual performance since its founding in 1997. By crossing the 31,000-unit mark in a single month, Toyota moved closer to narrowing the gap with some of its direct rivals in the SUV and MPV categories.

Outlook For The Festive Season
With the festive season approaching, Toyota expects to maintain its current pace, supported by the GST reduction and the popularity of its top-selling vehicles. The company has also been focusing on enhancing safety, by making six airbags as standard across the Rumion, Glanza and Urban Cruiser Taisor lineup. While challenges such as fluctuating raw material prices and regulatory norms continue to influence the auto industry, Toyota’s recent performance suggests that its product mix and brand positioning remain resilient. If current trends continue, the company is likely to close 2025 with some of its strongest sales numbers in recent years.
