The recently unveiled new generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is expected to arrive on our shores in the second half of 2025. The SUV made its global debut last year and is slowly being introduced to international markets in a phased manner. It will come here as a full CBU (completely built up) import just like its bigger sibling, the LC 300.

Positioning

The new Prado is also being sold as the LC 250 in some markets and is the brand’s flagship product in markets like the North American Continent and the United Kingdom, the full size 300 is not available there. The SUV will most likely carry the ‘Land Cruiser Prado’ moniker in India as we also get the Land Cruiser 300 like Australia and Middle East.

Platform

The SUV is internally codenamed the JC250 and according to the carmaker, it has improved on and off road technology. It continues to sit on a ladder frame chassis which the automaker says is 50 percent more rigid than its predecessor, with the entire BoF (body on frame) assembly being approximately 30 percent stiffer.

Dimensions

It measures 4,920 mm in length, 1,870 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,850 mm; slightly larger than its predecessor and also roomier inside. Gets a re-designed cabin with more features. The chunky physical controls, a lot of switchgear is all shared with the larger 300. Also comes with multi-zone climate control, leather upholstery, a wrap-around digital display and a new infotainment system.

Technology

The manufacturer states that it offers enhanced all terrain capability, has increased wheel articulation, an upgraded Multi-Terrain monitor interface and improvements to the off-road drive modes. Also includes a disconnecting front anti-roll bar disengaged via a switch on the dashboard, allowing for maximum wheel articulation.

Powertrain

Europe, Japan, Middle East and Australia get the same 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine found in the Fortuner in India. The motor is mated to an eight speed torque converter automatic and will get a 48 Volt mild-hybrid system by 2025.
