Toyota had unveiled the Innova Hycross in 2022, and since then, it has seen a decent amount of sales and popularity. The Innova Hycross is a full-size family MPV which is built on Toyota’s TNGA-C (GA-C) platform, specifically the TNGA-C “High” variant. This platform change represents a significant shift from the Innova Crysta’s ladder-frame chassis and rear-wheel-drive setup to a monocoque chassis and front-wheel-drive configuration.
This new platform’s safety standards were unconfirmed and not trusted, as there have been a few fatal crashes for the Hycross, but Bharata NCAP has just tested the MPV, and the test scores say otherwise. Let’s dig deeper.
Crash Test

The Toyota Innova Hycross has been awarded a 5-star rating by Bharat NCAP, which is the highest safety rating. The MPV scored 30.47 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection and 45 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, which is a significant result.
These scores now place the Hycross MPV among the highest-rated vehicles tested under Bharat NCAP. Toyota’s modular TNGA-C platform appears to have played a key role in achieving these results. The Innova Hycross’s five-star Bharat NCAP rating is backed by a comprehensive set of standard safety features across key occupant zones.

Tested models included the petrol GX 8-seater variant, along with the hybrid VX 8-seater and ZX 7-seater variants. In the event of a crash, the passengers benefit from belt pre-tensioners and load-limiters, though rear seatbelt aids are absent, and there are no knee airbags. Side protection features include curtain airbags covering all three rows.
Verdict – Is It Really Safe?

While the Hycross performed remarkably in the Bharat NCAP crash tests, some may still hesitate in terms of safety while considering the vehicle, as the MPV has had fatal crashes in the past.
