Japanese automaker Toyota showed off their concept Innova (Kijang in Indonesia) Electric concept at IIMS 2025 in Jakarta. Toyota says the vehicle is purely a concept & won’t enter production anytime soon.
Design
The 2025 Innova EV retains a very similar design to the diesel-powered body-on-frame Innova Crysta known for its extreme reliability & robustness. It adds several EV-specific design elements such as a new sealed grille for better aerodynamics, angular connected headlights and blue accents on the Toyota badge. It gets new 16-inch alloy wheels and connected rear LED tail-lights with blue highlights.
Interior
The cabin now has a flat floor design thanks to the underfloor battery placement, dual-tone upholstery and a modern cabin updated to meet newer expectations. It comes with many new features such as a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, ambient lighting, captain seats, a large touchscreen infotainment system and dual-tone upholstery, enhancing the Innova’s already segment-best comfort and space.
Powertrain
The Innova EV comes with a unique powertrain, offering 179 BHP but a much larger & disproportionate 700 NM of instant electric torque making it extremely fun to drive. It’s powered by a 59.3 kWh lithium ion battery pack, supporting both AC & DC fast charging. No range or charging speeds were disclosed, however. The battery features a unique design with separate smaller modules under the floor and a larger unit in the engine bay.
Future Prospects
Toyota has no plans of producing this vehicle in the near future, and it remains purely a concept. It serves as a glimpse into what future models of the Innova could be & Toyota’s electrification journey. The Innova remains the king in the taxi segment owing to its long-lasting and robust design.
