Toyota has officially confirmed that the Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid now uses a smaller battery pack. The update was introduced with the 2025 model year and replaces the earlier 0.76 KWH battery with a new 0.60 KWH unit. However, Toyota states that the change has no impact on the SUV’s performance, fuel efficiency, or overall driving experience.

Battery Update Explained

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid originally featured a 0.76 KWH lithium-ion battery. With the 2025 model year update introduced in April last year, Toyota switched to a smaller 0.60 KWH battery pack. According to the company, this change is part of its continuous product improvement strategy and has been implemented without affecting the SUV’s overall capability.

Performance & Fuel Efficiency

Toyota has confirmed that the updated battery does not change the Hyryder’s performance figures. The strong-hybrid system continues to deliver a combined output of 115.56 PS while maintaining its claimed ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 27.97 KMPL. As a result, buyers can expect the same balance of performance and economy offered by the previous model.

Real-World Driving Experience

Toyota says owners are unlikely to notice any significant difference during daily driving. Since the strong-hybrid system continuously charges and discharges the battery while driving, the smaller battery pack simply cycles more frequently. Although the SUV may travel slightly shorter distances in pure EV mode, the battery also recharges more quickly, ensuring consistent hybrid performance.

Engine & Hybrid System

The Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid continues with its proven 1.5-LITRE three-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine paired with an AC synchronous electric motor. The petrol engine produces 92 HP and 122 NM, while the electric motor generates 80 HP and 141 NM. Combined system output remains 115.56 PS, with power delivered to the front wheels through an e-CVT automatic transmission.

Prices In India

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is currently priced between ₹11.31 lakh and ₹19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The updated 0.60 KWH battery pack is already available in Strong Hybrid variants without any additional cost. Toyota has also confirmed that this battery revision does not affect the SUV’s pricing or variant lineup.

Competition In India

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder competes in the highly competitive midsize SUV segment. Its main rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq. However, the Hyryder continues to stand out with its highly fuel-efficient Strong Hybrid powertrain.

Verdict

Toyota’s decision to reduce the Hyryder Strong Hybrid’s battery size may appear significant on paper, but the company has confirmed that real-world performance and efficiency remain unchanged. With the same power output, excellent fuel economy, and proven hybrid technology, the Urban Cruiser Hyryder continues to be one of the most efficient midsize SUVs available in India.
