India’s multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment continued its strong run through the first half of FY2026, driven by consistent demand across both family-oriented buyers and fleet operators. Total volumes remained stable compared to the same period last year, when MPVs outsold sedans. Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga maintained its long-standing lead, while Toyota and Kia continued to strengthen their presence in the premium space. The segment also saw renewed momentum from newer models such as the Toyota Rumion and Maruti Suzuki Invicto, while the Renault Triber held its ground. Together, the top 10 MPVs contributed a significant share to India’s passenger vehicle sales thanks to their balance of space, comfort, and practicality.

At the top of the chart, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga continued its dominance with 93,235 units sold in H1 FY2026, though it recorded a slight 2% dip from 95,061 units in the same period last year. Despite this marginal decline, the Ertiga remains the preferred MPV for many Indian families due to its value-oriented proposition, fuel efficiency, and wide service network. Right behind it, the Toyota Innova, which includes both Crysta and Hycross variants, posted 53,589 units in H1 FY2026. It recorded a a modest 2% year-on-year increase. The Innova continues to enjoy strong brand loyalty, particularly among long-distance travelers and premium taxi operators.

In third place, the Kia Carens posted a sharp 25% year-on-year growth, rising from 33,575 units in H1 FY2025 to 41,831 units this year. This makes it one of the fastest-growing MPVs in the country. Its wide range of engine options, flexible seating configurations, and feature-loaded interiors have made it a compelling choice for both families and urban buyers. Meanwhile, the Maruti Suzuki XL6, positioned as a premium alternative to the Ertiga, saw a 13% decline in sales, down from 19,470 units to 16,947 units. While the XL6 continues to attract customers seeking added comfort and sophistication, the growing competition in its price range, particularly from the Carens, has affected its volumes.

Triber Holds Firm, Rumion Slips In Numbers

The Renault Triber, the most affordable MPV in the market, maintained a stable performance with 10,677 units sold, up 6% from 10,096 units in H1 FY2025. Its compact dimensions, modular seating, and competitive pricing continue to appeal to small families and first-time buyers. On the other hand, the Toyota Rumion, which is essentially a rebadged version of the Ertiga, experienced a significant drop in sales. It sold 7,267 units in H1 FY2026, down 29% from 10,295 units last year. The decline may be attributed to production prioritization for higher-selling Toyota models and strong competition from the Ertiga itself.

Invicto & Vellfire Add To The Premium Segment

In the upper tier of the MPV space, Toyota and Maruti continue to collaborate through their shared models. The Maruti Suzuki Invicto, based on the Innova Hycross, recorded 1,491 units in H1 FY2026, up 19% year-on-year. Although positioned as a niche product, it appeals to buyers looking for a hybrid MPV with Maruti’s brand assurance and service reach. The Toyota Vellfire, one of the most luxurious MPVs in India, posted 596 units in the same period, a 14% increase over 523 units last year. Despite its premium pricing, the Vellfire has built a strong following among business executives and luxury fleet operators.

Closing the top 10 list are two models that cater to different audiences. The Kia Carnival, which re-entered the list with 425 units, marked its gradual return with the new-generation model. While its volumes remain limited amid high pricing, the Carnival continues to appeal to customers who prioritize space, comfort, and premium features over outright affordability. The Mahindra Marazzo, which has been discontinued, posted 252 units in H1 FY2026. This marks a substantial 227% increase from just 77 units last year. Though the numbers are still modest, the improvement indicates that Mahindra has managed to sell the remaining stock of the model, primarily through fleet demand and selective regional availability.
