August 2025 turned out to be a challenging period for the Indian automotive sector, with overall passenger vehicle sales dipping to 3,27,719 units compared to 3,54,273 units in August last year. The slowdown was largely linked to uncertainty over pending GST price revisions. The 7-seater segment remains crucial for families and fleet buyers, with established models continuing to dominate sales charts despite a few steep declines.
The table below shows the list of top 10 best-selling 7-seaters in India in August 2025:
| Model | Aug 2025 Sales | Aug 2024 Sales | YoY Growth |

| Mahindra Scorpio (Scorpio N + Classic) | 9,840 | 13,787 | -29% |
| Toyota Innova (Hycross + Crysta) | 9,304 | 9,687 | -4% |
| Mahindra Bolero | 8,109 | 6,494 | +25% |
| Kia Carens (Carens + Clavis ICE + Clavis EV) | 6,822 | 5,881 | +16% |

| Tata Safari | 1,489 | 1,951 | -24% |
Ertiga Holds Steady, Scorpio Slips

At the top of the list, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga retained its spot with 18,445 units sold, only a marginal 1 percent dip compared to last year. The MPV continues to appeal to buyers with its practicality, affordability, and fuel-efficient options. Right behind, the Mahindra Scorpio recorded 9,840 units, which marked a sharp 29 percent year-on-year drop. The decline is significant given Scorpio’s strong run earlier this year, but it still managed to secure the second spot on the list.
Innova Faces Mild Drop, Bolero Gains Momentum

The Toyota Innova Hycross and Crysta together registered 9,304 units in August. While this figure represents a 4 percent decline from last year, the model continues to be a good choice in terms of comfort and reliability. In contrast, Mahindra’s Bolero reported a solid 25 percent jump in sales, reaching 8,109 units. The Bolero’s appeal in tier-2 cities and rural markets, where durability and low maintenance costs are required, helped it gain momentum.
Carens Sees Growth, XUV700 Drops Nearly Half

Kia’s Carens MPV saw an uplifting performance with 6,822 units sold, reflecting a 16 percent rise over last year. The model offers a balance of space, features, and relatively accessible pricing. In addition, its petrol, diesel and electric powertrain choices gives it an edge. In contrast, the Mahindra XUV700 witnessed the steepest drop among the top 10, with sales down 45 percent to 4,956 units. The fall could be due to supply constraints and rising competition in the premium SUV space.
XL6 Shows Consistency, Fortuner Sees Uptick

Maruti’s XL6 managed a healthy 9 percent growth year-on-year, with 2,973 units sold in August. The MPV continues to benefit from its positioning as a more premium alternative to the Ertiga, offering captain seats and additional features. Toyota’s Fortuner, which dominates the ladder-frame SUV segment, posted 2,508 units, a 7 percent rise compared to last year. Despite its higher price point, the Fortuner remains popular among buyers due to its commanding road presence and reliability.
Triber Gains Share, Safari Declines

Towards the lower end of the list, Renault’s Triber recorded 1,870 units in August, up 24 percent compared to last year. Its affordability and modular seating arrangement continue to attract families looking for a budget-friendly 7-seater. Tata’s Safari, however, experienced a 24 percent decline with 1,489 units sold. Increased competition appears to have weighed on its monthly performance.
Together, these numbers highlight the mixed performance of India’s 7-seater market, where some models are expanding their foothold while others struggle to hold ground.
