Tesla Unveils Model Y Performance: 460 BHP, 580 KM Range

1 min read

Tesla has introduced the Model Y Performance, a new high-output variant of its midsize electric SUV. It delivers an estimated 460 BHP produced by dual electric motors (AWD) and accelerates from 0 to 100 KM/H in 3.3 seconds. Despite the boost in performance, Tesla claims the WLTP-rated range remains strong at 580 KM. This is due to the new high-density battery pack that improves power and efficiency without increasing weight.

The new Performance version gets a re-engineered chassis developed using feedback from Nürburgring testing. It uses adaptive dampers derived from the Model 3 Performance, firmer anti-roll bars, and a stiffer rear structure. These changes aim to deliver improved handling without sacrificing ride comfort. The model also adds new drive modes tailored for spirited driving as well as calm highway cruising. With a top speed of 250 KM/H and 21-inch Arachnid wheels paired with a carbon-fibre rear spoiler, this variant clearly leans toward driving dynamics while keeping family space intact.

Interior & Tech Enhancements

Inside, the Model Y Performance includes upgraded sports seats with deeper bolsters and electric adjustment that even supports leg extension for enhanced comfort. Rear passengers get power-recline and heated seats as standard. A sharper and larger 16-inch central touchscreen replaces the previous 15.4-inch unit and offers nearly twice the pixel count. Additional touches include carbon-fibre trim, red brake callipers, and performance-specific interior badging.

Fast Charging & Real-World Range Delivery

Tesla highlights that despite producing more power, the new battery retains efficiency and supports rapid charging. Tesla claims that it has a WLTP-rated range of 580 KM. A 15-minute charge session using a high-power DC source adds about 240-243 KM of range. This makes it practical for long-distance use and also compatible with the company’s Supercharger network.

With this launch, Tesla demonstrates ability to blend family-friendly SUVs with high-performance EVs. The Model Y Performance retains core usability and cargo space of the standard Model Y while delivering acceleration that rivals sports cars. Its advanced suspension, battery, and charging systems maintain balance between energy use and speed. Priced at €61,990 (₹73.83 Lakh) in UK, the Performance model targets buyers who want the best of both worlds with an EV.
