Tesla To Unveil India’s First Supercharger In Mumbai On August 4

1 min read

Tesla is set to open its first Supercharger station in India on Monday, August 4, 2025, at One BKC in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). This marks the brand’s first high-speed charging station in the country, following the launch of its first showroom in the same complex in mid-July. The facility will feature four V4 DC Supercharging hubs, each capable of charging up to 250 kW, priced at ₹24 per kWh, along with four slower 11 kW AC destination chargers priced at ₹14 per kWh. The location was chosen for it being close to Tesla’s Mumbai showroom and being accessible to key commercial and transport areas in the city.

Fast‑Flow Or Slow Lane Charging: What Users Can Choose

Tesla owners will have the flexibility depending on how urgently they need to charge. The fast V4 superchargers support 250 kW DC power, capable of providing about 267 KM of range to a Model Y in just 15 minutes. In contrast, the 11 kW AC stalls are ideal for longer stays such as shopping or working at BKC. Tesla’s pricing strategy reflects this difference, with the DC charger costing nearly twice as much as the AC alternative. This gives users a clear choice based on their need and budget.

App Integration & Monitoring

Tesla says that the charging experience is intended to be plug‑and‑play. Users will check stall availability via the Tesla app, drive to the station, plug in, and charging begins with no additional login or payment steps. The app will also notify drivers when charging completes or if there’s an unusual delay. Additional features include automatic battery pre‑conditioning for faster charging, estimated time to top-up, and real‑time status monitoring, even when the owner steps away from the car.

Tesla’s Strategy & India’s Electric Landscape

Opening the first Supercharger marks a major milestone in Tesla’s India strategy which is focused on building not just a product presence, but also charging infrastructure to support EV growth. The Mumbai location is the first of eight initially planned across the country, with other charging stations planned for Delhi NCR, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Lower Parel. In the long run, Tesla aims to create a network that enables inter‑city travel and aligns with India’s broader ambition to expand EV infrastructure. A second showroom in Delhi is also under development, and the company is working on integrating its service and charging operations to deliver a consistent experience across key urban centres.
