Tesla India Inaugurates Delhi Showroom

1 min read

Tesla has opened its second retail outlet in India at Worldmark 3, Aerocity, following its Mumbai debut. The showroom has four V4 supercharger stalls. It’s the second one to be inaugurated in India, outside BKC.

Location & Facilities

The showroom is situated near Indira Gandhi International Airport and is intended to serve customers across Delhi NCR. The site’s four supercharger stalls are open to the public and have been created to support early owners and spark local interest while still functioning as chargers for other electric vehicles too.

Model Y Offering & Pricing

Tesla’s India launch is reliant on their popular Model Y, offered in two variants with different battery capacities and ranges. Pricing starts at Rs 59.89 Lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant. The positioning places the Model Y against premium electric SUVs from both established luxury brands and newer Chinese entrants such as BYD & BMW.

Supercharger Network Plan

Tesla has stated its intention to expand the supercharger network in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The Aerocity site is expected to serve as a northern hub for this rollout. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the coming quarter, which further emphasises the time crunch Tesla is facing with regard to building a good charging network.

Market Context & Challenges

The showroom launch increases customer access to Tesla’s vehicles and brand experience in India. However, high CBU import duties, varying state taxes, a tiny service network, and growing competition in the premium EV segment remain significant challenges. The new superchargers improve practicality, but broader infrastructure and cost considerations will continue to influence purchase decisions in a segment where German diesel cars usually rule the market due to familiarity, brand value and frugality.
