Tata Tiago NRG Updated

1 min read

The Tata Tiago NRG, launched at a starting price of ₹7.2 Lakhs, continues to position itself as a raised variant of the standard Tiago. It’s essentially a raised Tiago with several tweaked design elements to give it a crossover-ish stance. Tata brands it as an “Urban Toughroader.”

Tata has discontinued the XT variant & only offers the Tiago NRG in two trims now. It gets Tata’s updated 10.25-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a rear camera, auto headlights and wipers and a digital instrument cluster. Tata has also changed the steering wheel to align with their more modern products. Prices are as follows:

  • XZ MT: ₹7.2L
  • XZ CNG: ₹8.2L
  • XZA: ₹7.75L
  • XZA CNG: ₹8.75L

Design Differentiation

The Tiago NRG features a few changed design elements, such as a revised grille, updated headlamps, and plastic body cladding. These modifications try to make it look like an SUV. Roof rails and faux skid plates are included to try to accomplish this. It retains the 1.2-litre petrol engine that generates 86 PS and 113 Nm of torque. A CNG variant will follow, producing 73 PS and 95 Nm. This is adequate for city driving, but it will noticeably struggle under heavier loads. The five-speed manual transmission is functional but lacks engagement and feel.

Interior

The interior of the Tiago NRG is functional. It includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and keyless entry. Fit & finish and material quality have room to improve, though.

Pricing & Positioning

With its launch price of ₹7.2 Lakhs, the Tiago NRG competes against other B2 segment hatchbacks, such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. It does come with unique styling but falls flat compared to its Japanese and Korean rivals in terms of refinement and engine performance.
