The highly anticipated Tata Sierra is set to return to the Indian automotive market in the second half of 2025, with an expected launch around the Diwali season. The reborn Sierra is undergoing extensive road testing and has been spotted with camouflage.
The 2025 Tata Sierra will have a modern design reminiscent of the older SUV. It features a high-set bonnet with a split headlamp design, to give it an upright stance & good road presence. An connected LED lightbar runs across the nose, with the main headlamp units positioned on the bumper. The vertical strake detailing, the “Sierra” lettering on the grille, and a large central air intake are also retained. It will have a five-door layout, a departure from its original three-door design.
The interior design has not been showcased, but the concept versions have always hinted at a minimalist yet modern cabin design. It’s expected to be loaded with many features, being a new Tata product with potential for a triple-screen setup. Two interior specifications will be offered, namely a 5-seater and a 4-seater. The 4-seater “Lounge” spec aims to remind you of your living room and offers the best legroom in the segment, while the more conventional 5-seater spec will offer a more mainstream bench seat. Additionally, the model will come with a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging and ventilated seats.
The Sierra will likely be the first car from Tata to come with their brand-new 1.5L Hyperion T-GDi petrol engine producing 170 BHP & 280 NM of torque. It will come in petrol, diesel and electric powertrains with both the petrol and diesel variants offering 170 BHP & the choice between manual & automatic transmissions. Power & range specifications aren’t yet known for the electric model.
The Sierra will be built on Tata’s new ATLAS (Adaptive Tech Forward Lifestyle) platform. It supports various body styles and supports both all-wheel drive (AWD) and four-wheel drive (4X4) systems. This platform initially debuted with the Curvv and has proven its dynamics and safety with that car, scoring a full 5-star safety rating.
The upcoming launch of the Tata Sierra is a big deal for Tata Motors, as it seeks to revive an iconic nameplate with modern technology and a reimagined design. It will go head-to-head with competitors in the compact SUV space, such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate & Volkswagen Taigun. The electric version is expected to come first, with ICE variants following. We expect a launch later this year, with prices starting around Rs. 14 Lakh (ex-showroom). Expected to be around 4.3 meters long, the Sierra will slot in below the Harrier in Tata’s SUV lineup alongside the Curvv.
