The Tata Sierra is set to make its return in the Indian automotive market in 2025, It was launched by Tata Motors way back in 1991. Now, they are planning to re-launch the Sierra by offering both electric (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) variants.
Launch Timeline
Electric Variant: Has an expected market launch in May 2025.
Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Variants: Petrol and diesel versions are anticipated to debut in the second half of 2025.
Powertrain Options
Electric: The Sierra EV is expected to offer multiple battery options, including capacities of 45 kWh and 55 kWh, paired with single and dual-motor configurations. This setup aims to deliver a range of up to 500 km on a single charge. Additionally, the EV will support DC fast charging for reduced downtime.
Petrol: The ICE variant will feature Tata’s new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-petrol engine, producing approximately 167 BHP and 280 NM of torque.
Diesel: A 2.0-litre diesel engine option is also expected, generating around 168 BHP and 380 NM of torque.
The 2025 Tata Sierra is expected to have a 4×4 system. The Sierra will be the first 4×4 ICE SUV from Tata Motors since the Safari Storme was discontinued in 2020 and the electric one will most probably get AWD.
Design And Features
Exterior: The Sierra retains its iconic design cues, such as the distinctive side glass, while incorporating modern elements like LED light bars at the front and rear, flush-fitting door handles, and large 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The clamshell tailgate offers enhanced access to the rear luggage compartment, which looks boxy in design and is paired with the connected tail lights. B and C pillars of the cars resemble the 1991 model everything else is changed. The new Sierra has 5 doors while the OG Sierra has only 3 doors.
Interior: The cabin is designed to be spacious, featuring a layered and horizontal design theme. Key amenities include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, and advanced infotainment systems. The Sierra is expected to offer both 4 and 5-seater seating configurations to cater to diverse consumer preferences. These are the expected details of the interior since it hasn’t been revealed yet.
Safety And Technology
The Sierra is anticipated to come equipped with modern safety features, including multiple airbags, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and a robust build quality adhering to Tata’s safety standards. Technological enhancements will include connected car technology, a fully digital instrument cluster, and possibly Level 2 ADAS capabilities. Which are currently present in the Harrier and the Safari.
Pricing
The Sierra is estimated to be priced between ₹25 lakh and ₹30 lakh positioning it competitively within the premium electric SUV segment. It will compete with the Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos, and, the Mahindra Thar Roxx.
