Tata Revises Warranty Terms For EV Batteries

1 min read

Tata Motors has updated its battery warranty policy for select electric vehicles (EVs). The company has introduced a lifetime battery warranty for the Curvv EV and the Nexon EV 45 variant.

Warranty

The lifetime battery warranty is available to the first private owners of the Curvv EV and Nexon EV 45. According to Tata Motors, this coverage is valid for up to 15 years from the date of vehicle registration. The policy applies only to private use vehicles and is not transferable to subsequent owners. If the vehicle is sold, the battery warranty coverage reverts to the standard 8-year or 160,000 km warranty.

Maintenance

To retain eligibility for the lifetime battery warranty, vehicles must remain connected to Tata’s telematics system. In addition, regular servicing must be performed at authorized Tata EV service centers. These conditions are designed to help the company monitor battery health and usage patterns to assess warranty claims.

Other Models

The lifetime battery warranty was earlier introduced with the Harrier EV. It is now extended to the Curvv EV and Nexon EV 45. No announcements have been made regarding the inclusion of this policy for other existing Tata EV models like the Tiago EV or Punch EV.

Customer Incentives

Tata Motors has also announced a loyalty benefit of ₹50,000 for current Tata EV owners who upgrade to either the Curvv EV or Nexon EV 45. This offer is available only for a limited period, and full terms and conditions are expected to be released.

The Nexon EV 45 is equipped with a 45 kWh battery pack and offers an ARAI-claimed range of 489 KM. The Curvv EV is expected to come with estimated ranges of around 500 km and 585 km, respectively. Both models are based on Tata’s Gen2 EV architecture and use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry.

Market Context

Most electric vehicles in India currently offer battery warranties ranging between 6 and 8 years or 120,000 to 160,000 km. The introduction of a lifetime warranty for select models marks a shift in the approach to addressing long-term battery reliability, which remains a concern among potential EV buyers. However, warranty claims will still be subject to inspection and compliance with usage and maintenance conditions.
