The facelifted Tata Altroz has achieved a full 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (Bharat NCAP), reaffirming its position as one of the safest hatchbacks in India. This comes after it had already received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP in 2020. Tested across its petrol, diesel and CNG variants, the car demonstrated solid results and protection for both adult and child occupants. Bharat NCAP is India’s official crash testing programme, introduced to encourage automakers to enhance safety standards in line with global benchmarks. For Tata Motors, this recognition adds to a growing list of models that have excelled in safety tests.

Adult & Child Occupant Safety Scores

According to the official Bharat NCAP report, the Altroz facelift scored 29.65 out of 32 points in adult occupant protection and 44.90 out of 49 points in child occupant protection. These results place it among the highest-rated hatchbacks tested so far under the new protocol. The crash test data showed strong structural integrity during frontal and side impact assessments. Features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, seatbelt pre-tensioners and ISOFIX anchorages contributed to the positive outcome. The car also complied well with side pole impact requirements, further boosting its safety credentials.

Safety Features Across Variants

One of the highlights of the Altroz is that the 5-star rating applies to all powertrain options, including petrol, diesel and CNG trims. This ensures that buyers do not have to compromise on safety depending on the variant they choose. Standard features include six airbags, ESP, and a high-speed alert system. It even gets ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and a seat belt reminder system for all seats. The inclusion of ISOFIX child-seat mounts across trims has further improved its child occupant protection score.

Impact On The Segment

The Altroz’s performance in Bharat NCAP is significant for the Indian hatchback market, where safety has often taken a back seat to affordability and fuel efficiency. A strong 5-star rating not only enhances consumer confidence but also puts pressure on rival models in the segment to improve their own safety standards. With buyers increasingly aware of crash test results and safety equipment, the Altroz’s rating could influence purchase decisions, especially among families prioritising secure travel.
