The Suzuki Hustler, a popular Japanese Kei car, has recently been spotted testing in India on the streets of Delhi, completely undisguised. This sighting strongly suggests that Suzuki is keen on introducing more of its global models to the Indian market.
Suzuki Hustler — Exterior:
At first glance, the Hustler shares a striking resemblance with the Jimny and Wagon R. It sports the classic Kei car boxy design — tall yet narrow. The Hustler’s front fascia features circular headlamps, while the rear has a slab-sided design with rectangular tail lamps.
The square wheel arches with black cladding add an SUV-like appearance. It will be interesting to see how Indian buyers respond to the design. With a wheelbase of 2,425 mm and short overhangs, the Hustler also includes design elements like Y-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels, pull-type door handles, and roof rails.
Suzuki Hustler — Interior:
Inside, the Hustler is expected to feature elements similar to those found in the Swift and Baleno, including a 9-inch infotainment system, a heads-up display, and six airbags. While the spy shots do not provide a clear view of the interior, the layout is anticipated to resemble that of the Jimny. The car is expected to accommodate four passengers and offer approximately 300 liters of boot space.
Suzuki Hustler — Powertrain Options:
If launched in India, the Hustler would likely come with the new Maruti Swift’s 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-Series naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 81 PS at 5,700 RPM and 111 NM of torque at 4,300 RPM, with options for a 5-speed manual and an AMT transmission.
Suzuki Hustler — Could Maruti Suzuki Introduce It In India?
Maruti Suzuki may not launch the micro SUV immediately, but its appearance on Indian roads suggests that the company might be exploring new options. While Maruti Suzuki has not yet confirmed the Hustler’s launch in India, if the decision is made to introduce it, the Hustler could potentially replace the aging Ignis, which has faced declining sales in its segment. The Hustler could be positioned to compete with models such as the Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter.
