Stellantis, the automotive giant behind brands like Jeep, Citroën, and Maserati, is looking forward to launching a Chinese electric vehicle brand into the Indian Automotive market. Stellantis is setting up to launch Leapmotor into the Indian EV market, This will be the fourth brand from Stellantis to be launched in India.
Partnership
The Partnership began in 2019 when Stellantis put in about €1.5 billion to acquire a 21% stake in Leapmotor. This move led to the formation of Leapmotor International, giving Stellantis rights to manufacture, export, and sell Leapmotor vehicles globally. This aims to leverage Stellantis’ global manufacturing and distribution capabilities alongside Leapmotor’s innovative EV technologies.
Launches

Stellantis might launch the Leapmotor in India by the end of 2025. They haven’t confirmed the models to launch in India, but looking at the Leapmotor lineup and trend going on in India in the EV sector, there will be a compact electric hatchback and a mid-size SUV. The launches are expected to have some technologically advanced features, as seen with the other Chinese brands in India.
Manufacturing

To deal with the high import tariffs on fully built vehicles in India, Stellantis will be planning to assemble the Leapmotor EVs in its manufacturing plants around Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. This will also help Stellantis in adapting the Leapmotor products to regional market conditions.
Conclusion
Leapmotor’s entry into the Indian EV Market will be to compete with established players like Tata Motors, MG Motor, and BYD. Leapmotor is expected to offer technologically advanced products to the Indian Market to make its position strong in the competition.
