Skoda Octavia vRS Test Drive Review

2 min read

The Skoda Octavia vRS, freshly launched in India, asserts itself as a performance sedan beloved among enthusiasts for its distinctive blend of everyday usability and exhilarating driving dynamics. With only 100 units available and all sold out in a matter of minutes, the Octavia vRS marks a triumphant return to the Indian market, reflecting its cult status. We had the chance to unleash it at the BIC, honestly there is no better venue in India to extract it full potential.

Engine & Performance

Under the hood, the Octavia vRS features a 2.0-litre turbocharged TSI petrol engine producing 265hp and 370Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. Skoda claims a 0-100 kmph sprint in just 6.4 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph, underscoring its sporty credentials. This powertrain, combined with progressive steering, sports suspension, and advanced chassis engineering, provides a remarkably balanced blend of agility and comfort which makes is quite engaging to drive

Our drive on the BIC was flat out, the 265 horses and 370 NM torque work in symphony to push the car while the Sport suspension and the precise steering ensure you never stop smiling. We hit a top speed of 211 km/h but we ran out of road and had to brake to make the corner. High speed stability is fantastic and the car literally hugs the road with body roll very much in control. The slalom course highlighted the suspension which makes the car quite eager to change direction. The vRS continues to deliver excitement, pretty much in the same way as its predecessors.

Driving Experience

The Octavia vRS stands out for its handling prowess. The 15mm-lower sports suspension offers improved cornering abilities compared to the standard Octavia, while the progressive steering ensures a responsive connection to the road. Despite its evident performance focus, ride quality remains suitable for Indian conditions, striking a fine balance between firmness and daily comfort. Even at high speeds, the vRS feels composed and confidence-inspiring.

Design & Exterior

Visually, the Octavia vRS sets itself apart with aggressive design touches: a blacked-out Butterfly grille, distinctive RS badging, 19-inch aero-styled alloy wheels, red brake callipers, and a subtle rear lip spoiler. The full matrix LED headlights and V-shaped LED DRLs impart a sharp, purposeful front-end appeal, while the classic sedan silhouette lends a sense of timeless elegance. Five exterior color options—Mamba Green, Magic Black, Candy White, Race Blue, and Velvet Red—cater to a variety of tastes. Our pick has to be the Mamba Green and that’s exactly why we drove this one.

Interior & Features

Stepping inside, the Octavia vRS treats occupants to a premium and sporty cabin. Alcantara upholstery with red contrast stitching, an all-black interior theme, and sport seats with massage, heating, cooling, and memory functions reinforce its performance intent. The spacious cabin offers ample room for five adults, and the massive 600-litre boot is a boon for road trips. Standout features include a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen, 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, Canton sound system, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and three-zone climate control. Practicality and comfort are heightened by conveniences like a virtual pedal for the electric tailgate and multiple fast-charging USB-C ports.

Safety & Technology

Safety is paramount, with the Octavia vRS equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, and a robust chassis. However, some features expected at this price point—such as Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) and a sunroof—are notably absent.

Pricing & Verdict

Priced at ₹49.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Octavia vRS is an exclusive offering imported into India as a completely built unit. For performance enthusiasts seeking a single car that excels both as a family sedan and a genuine driver’s car, the Octavia vRS is close to unbeatable in its segment.

In summary, the new Skoda Octavia vRS delivers on its promise of accessible performance, practicality, and daily usability, all wrapped up in an eye-catching and technologically advanced package. While not perfect, it is a worthy torchbearer for Skoda’s revered RS badge in India, satisfying the enthusiast’s heart without compromising on comfort and everyday logic. Only problem is, you can’t buy one as it’s already sold out for the year.
