The Skoda Kylaq has reached a notable milestone by crossing 30,000 sales within only eight months of its launch in India. It has also become the bestselling model for Skoda in India. Skoda recorded 30,190 sales of the Kylaq between January and August 2025. This figure underlines the strong demand that it has managed to generate in a relatively short time. It falls under the competitive sub-4M SUV segment where new entrants often take longer to establish themselves. The achievement also reflects how the Kylaq has struck a balance between affordability and features, attracting a wide range of buyers.

Market Position & Competition

The Kylaq has quickly emerged as a strong contender in the compact SUV category, where it competes with models from both Indian and international carmakers. In the first eight months of this year, the Kylaq managed to sell 30,190 units, contributing to 65 percent of the total 46,720 Skoda vehicles sold. Data reveals that it has has sold 4,677 units more than the Kia Syros. Skoda’s decision to price the Kylaq aggressively while offering a modern design and well-equipped feature set seems to have helped it gain traction. Its performance so far shows how important the sub-15 lakh SUV segment has become in shaping overall industry trends.

Factors Driving Demand

Several elements have contributed to the Kylaq’s momentum. The SUV is built on the locally developed MQB A0 IN platform, which has helped keep costs competitive. Sold with only a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which develops 114HP and 178NM of torque and mated with manual (6MT) and automatic (TC) transmissions, the Kylaq has a top speed of 188 KMPH. As per ARAI, it delivers 19.05 KMPL in the city and 19.68 KMPL on the highway, though real world numbers are relatively less.

Aggressive pricing has been a key factor for the Kylaq’s success, as its prices range from ₹7.53 lakh to ₹12.80 lakh (ex-showroom), and is available in seven variants. Post the GST 2.0 revision, the Kylaq’s price stands reduced by up to ₹ 11,9,295. Features such as a 10-inch infotainment screen, a sunroof, and electrically adjustable and ventilated front seats have added to its appeal. The Kylaq has good safety credentials, getting six airbags as standard across variants along with a 5-star safety rating from BNCAP.

What This Means For Skoda India

Crossing the 30,000 sales mark in under a year is a significant achievement for Skoda, a brand that has been working to expand its presence in India’s mass-market segments. The Kylaq’s performance has helped boost the company’s overall market share and has given it a strong foundation for future product strategies. This success could encourage Skoda to introduce more locally developed models aimed towards Indian buyers’ preference. For now, the Kylaq stands as one of the fastest-selling models in its category, setting a benchmark for the brand’s future ambitions in the country.
