Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has filed a voluntary recall notice with the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers affecting over 47,000 units of its made-in-India range of cars. The recall affects select units of the recently launched Skoda Kylaq, the Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Virtus and Volkswagen Taigun manufactured between May 24, 2024 and April 1, 2025.

  • Units manufactured between May 2024 and April 2025 are subject to recalls.
  • 25,722 Skoda Kylaq, Kushaq, and Slavia vehicles were impacted.
  • 21,513 Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus vehicles were impacted.

What’s The Problem?

The business stated in the SIAM filing that the recall is intended to check and fix defective rear seatbelts in the impacted cars, which may result in injury in the case of an accident. According to the filing, “the webbing of the rear center seatbelt assembly, along with the buckle of the rear right seatbelt, may fail, or the rear seatbelts buckle latch plate may break in an unfortunate event of a frontal collision.”

What Models Does This Apply To?

All locally produced vehicles manufactured between May 24, 2024, and April 1, 2025 are affected. This does not affect imports, so vehicles like the Kodiaq and the Tiguan are unaffected. Approximately 47,000 owners are affected, with the Taigun, Virtus, Slavia, Kushaq & Kylaq being recalled.

What Can You Do?

We anticipate that Skoda and Volkswagen dealers will contact impacted consumers directly, as has been the case with previous recalls. It is also anticipated that the defective seatbelts would be inspected and replaced at no cost. If your vehicle is affected, please contact your nearest dealership to arrange an appointment to get this fixed at the earliest.
