Introduction

  • Skoda extends its EV offering with this compact yet spacious family model, the Elroq.
  • It looks similar to the Enyaq but still manages to feel like a more usable-sized family car than the other small VW group, EVs, whose engineering it shares.

Exterior

Its modern and striking frontal Four Eyes Light look aggressive.

  • In the front, we see a black closed screen with a matrix LED light setup below the DRL.
  • Whereas in the back, we have C-shaped LED brake lights.
  • It has 21-inch alloy wheels with a wide variety of designs to customize.
  • The rest of the body line looks like a borrowed design, part by part from Kodiaq, Enyaq, and other Skoda SUVs.

Though it looks like the Enyaq, being an EV, it misses the signature front Skoda grille.

Interior

The unique gear selector and a tiny instrument cluster made the flat-bottom steering wheel look top-notch.

The big 13-inch central screen features the latest VW Group tech as usual: ambient light, ambient lights, automatic climate control, heads-up display, and a fully digital driver-side instrument cluster.

As usual, Skoda cabin storage is a strong point, with the brand claiming to have 48 litres of storage capacity across the cabin. The designers also place the Skoda logo in alphabetical letter form everywhere, except for the traditional logo, which only appears on wheels.

Powertrain

  • The larger 77 kW battery borrowed from the Enyaq boosts ranges up to 570 kilometers on a single charge.
  • Whereas foreign markets get an 85 model with dual-motor four-wheel drive, but there’s no word yet on whether Skoda will bring it to India
  • The smaller 52 kW and 59 kW battery DC chargers charge at a maximum speed of 145 kW, which means that when hooked up to a public rapid charger, Elroq models fitted with them can energize from 10 to 80% in 25 minutes.
  • The largest 77 kW battery can charge DC at up to 175 kW.
  • Can do 10 to 80% DC charge in just 28 minutes.

Variants And Customization

The Elroq will be available in two variants with different battery packages, i.e., 52 kWh and 77 kWh.

The standard and the Sportsline versions, with 9 distinct color options to choose from.

Safety And Technology

Elroq gets a huge list of safety features, including ABS with EBD, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Isofix seats, and a speed limiter with flashing brake lights in case of emergency.

It also has multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, and level 2 ADAS features.

Pricing & Rivals

Skoda Elroq’s tentative price in India should be between Rs. 25 to 35 lakhs, approximately.

If launched at this price, it could rival the current electric fleet of electric cars like the Curv EV and the Mahindra BE-9E and BE-6, as well as the MG ZS EV and Creta EV.

Launch Timeline And Availability

We expect Elroq to launch in India after June 2025, tentatively.

Conclusion

  • Though this seems to be a promising EV product considering overall driving dynamics, safety, and a tech-engineered car from Skoda for India, let’s see how Skoda brings and configures this for India.
  • As this is a price-sensitive market, companies have to position the product very well, or they can also plan for CBU/CKD units for India.
