Skoda Auto Volkswagen India has crossed the 2 million production mark, marking a significant milestone in its 25 year presence in the country. The achievement highlights the growing importance of India within the Volkswagen Group’s global manufacturing network and reflects strong momentum across all its brands. The two million tally includes vehicles produced for domestic and export markets, with more than 700,000 units shipped overseas to regions such as Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. According to the company, the most recent 500,000 units were produced in just 3.5 years, driven by rising demand for models designed specifically for India. October 2025 also turned out to be the Group’s best month in last six years, indicating that the company continues to gain traction even in a competitive market environment.

A major contributor to this milestone is the India-developed MQB-A0-IN platform, which underpins models like Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, Kylaq and Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus. Together, these models account for more than 500,000 units of the total volume. Built with a high level of localisation, the platform has helped the Group align with local preferences while trying to offer global quality standards. The strong performance of these models has also strengthened the domestic footprint of both Skoda and Volkswagen. Skoda India recorded its highest ever ten month sales performance in 2025 with 61,607 units, while the Volkswagen Virtus achieved its best festive month and holds a sizeable share in the sedan segment. The manufacturing operations based in Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar have benefited from nearly €600 million (₹6,183 crore) in investments. This enables it to produce higher output, deeper localisation and shorter production cycles.

Multi-Brand Strength & Expanding Premium Portfolio

The milestone also reflects the contribution of the Group’s premium and luxury brands, which operate under the same umbrella in India. Bentley began a new phase with dedicated operations under Bentley India and opened new showrooms in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Porsche added more than 4,400 customers over the last six years and expanded its presence to 13 sales points nationwide. Audi strengthened its position with performance-oriented models like the RS Q8. It even launched a used-car programme and expanded more than 6,500 charging points under its Charge My Audi initiative. Lamborghini continued to achieve record performance with 113 units delivered in 2024, posting a 10% rise over the previous year. The combined strength of these brands supports the Group’s strategy of using India not only as a manufacturing base but also as a growing consumer market for high end vehicles.

The Group’s leadership has reassured that India is important to its future mobility plans, both in terms of engineering capability and manufacturing. With good demand for locally developed models and a strong export numbers, the company is positioning India as a key hub for global markets. The next phase is expected to involve deeper localisation, expanded EV infrastructure and broader use of Indian engineering expertise in global programmes. For now, the production milestone stands as evidence of how quickly the Group has scaled its operations and how critical India has become for its global manufacturing needs.
