The Renault Kwid EV, already available in select global markets as the Dacia Spring, has been fully unveiled in Brazil, offering a close look at what the Indian market can expect. The model shares its platform with the current petrol Kwid but adapts it with EV-specific updates, including a redesigned front with Y-shaped LED DRLs, a closed-off grille, & new tail-lamp detailing.
Powertrain & Range

Internationally, the Kwid EV comes with a 26.8 KWH battery, producing between 44 BHP & 64 BHP depending on the variant, with a peak torque of 125 NM. It offers a claimed range of around 220-225 KM (WLTP standard), though actual range figures, especially in Indian conditions, will be lower. Charging options include both AC & DC charging. Acceleration isn’t brisk, with 0-100KM/H in nearly 14 seconds. The top speed is capped at 78 KM/H. The Kwid EV is designed primarily for urban commuting & short-distance usage.
Interior Features & Equipment

The interior setup is functional, not radical. A 10.1-inch touchscreen, digital cluster, wireless phone integration, cruise control, & rear camera features are expected. The safety suite includes basic airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, & limited driver aids. Boot space is reasonable for a hatchback in this class, with a total volume of around 308 litres.
Conclusion

Renault is targeting an aggressive price, with expectations hovering around Rs 7-8 Lakh (ex-showroom). Competitive pricing is likely the main draw, given that range, real-world charging infrastructure, & feature set remain in question. The Indian EV market is evolving, but affordability often comes at the cost of reduced equipment or lower battery capacity compared to global models. Whether Renault will retain all international features for the Indian Kwid EV is uncertain.
