1 min read

Renault has unveiled the Boreal, a new C-segment SUV designed primarily for markets outside Europe. It measures 4,556 MM in length, with a 2,702 MM wheelbase, and is expected to enter the Indian market in 2026. The Boreal is based on the CMF-B platform and debuts with a turbocharged petrol engine, a 6-speed or 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, and Level 2 ADAS capabilities.

Exterior Design & Dimensions

The Boreal is built on Renault’s CMF-B platform. It measures 4556 MM long, 1841 MM wide, and 1650 MM tall, with a 2702 MM wheelbase. It is longer and wider than the third-generation Duster. The styling borrows from the Renault Niagara concept, with LED lighting at the front and a pronounced grille design.

The SUV features squared-off wheel arches, extensive black body cladding, and an integrated roof spoiler. The rear gets V-shaped LED tail lamps, a gloss-black strip connecting them, and vertical door handles. Front door handles are conventional, while the rear ones are positioned on the B-pillar.

Powertrain & Performance

The Boreal is powered by a 1.3L turbo-petrol engine. In flex-fuel configuration, it produces 163 BHP and 270 NM of torque. Petrol versions deliver either 156 BHP and 240 NM or 138 BHP and 240 NM. The flex-fuel 2WD version does 0–100 KM/H in 9.26 seconds.

Transmission choices include a 6-speed DCT and a 7-speed DCT, depending on the market. It also offers four drive modes: Eco, Comfort, Sport, and MySense. Renault has confirmed that hybrid variants will follow for the Indian market, with a 1.6L petrol engine paired to a 48V or 1.4 kWh battery system, expected to produce 140–155 BHP. An AWD version is under evaluation.

Interior & Equipment

Inside, the Boreal comes with a 10-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital driver display, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It gets features such as a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable front seats, and wireless charging.

The SUV offers terrain modes like Eco, Mud, Snow, Off-road, and Auto. Safety equipment includes ten airbags, ABS, EBD, ESC, and ESP. It also features Level 2 ADAS with 24 functions, including adaptive cruise control, lane centring, emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera with parking sensors.

Global Strategy & India Timeline

The Boreal is part of Renault’s international product strategy for 2024–2027. Aimed at over 70 global markets, it is the fourth model in a planned rollout of eight new vehicles. Renault is investing €3 billion in this strategy to increase vehicle profitability in non-European markets.

The Boreal will launch in Brazil by late 2025. India will get a seven-seater version by the 2026 festive season, after the new Duster’s arrival. Local production is expected to take place in Renault’s Chennai plant.

Conclusion & Positioning

Renault hopes to position this as a high-volume C-segment SUV for emerging markets. With its dimensions, engine options, equipment list, and ADAS suite, it enters a competitive space. Its success in India will depend on pricing, hybrid availability, and its road presence.
