Tata Motors has officially unveiled the production-ready Harrier EV, showcasing its features and design at its Pune factory. Tata’s most premium electric car is set to bring forward Tata’s EV journey. It finally brings back all-wheel drive to Tata vehicles!

Design & Changes

The Harrier EV retains the familiar silhouette of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart but introduces subtle design changes exclusive to the electric version. The front grille is closed off for greater aerodynamics, with a redesigned bumper. The alloy wheels have been optimised for aerodynamics and a .EV badge has been added onto the doors. It differentiates the EV from the ICE Harrier while still keeping the general design language the same.

Technical Details & Powertrain

The Harrier EV is built on Tata’s Acti.EV Plus platform, which has been upgraded for the larger Harrier. It will come with Tata’s “Quad Wheel Drive” all-wheel-drive (AWD) system powered by dual motors. It could potentially come with a 75 kWh battery pack with a real-world range exceeding 500 kilometres per charge.
During the showcase, Tata demonstrated the vehicle’s capabilities on ramps and tracks with a slalom test to show off the car’s dynamics. It is suitable for both urban & rugged terrain.

Competition & Rivals

The Harrier EV is expected to compete with the Hyundai Creta Electric and the two Mahindra electric twins, the BE 6 & the XEV 9e. AWD could give it an edge over them along with its relatively less polarising design. Tata Motors plans to launch the Harrier EV this year. This is in alignment with Tata’s general plans to expand its electric lineup consisting of cars like the Nexon EV and Tiago EV. The Harrier EV will cater to buyers looking for a larger electric SUV with more premium features & all-wheel drive & completes Tata’s portfolio, offering something at all price points.
