Pre-Orders Begin For Citroen’s Basalt X

1 min read

Citroen India has commenced pre-bookings for its new Basalt X SUV. Interested buyers can reserve a model with a token payment of ₹11,000, either via Citroen’s website or at select dealerships. The move is part of its broader ‘Shift Into the New 2.0’ initiative.

Powertrain Offerings

The new Basalt X is expected to offer two petrol engine options shared with the Citroen C3: a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated unit producing around 82 BHP with a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a 1.2-litre turbo variant delivering approximately 120 BHP, available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque-converter automatic. Fuel economy ranges between 18–19.5 KMPL, depending on the powertrain.

Interior

Citroen signals a tech-forward entry with the Basalt X: teaser highlights suggest refreshed interiors, improved comfort through intelligent features, and emphasis on driving confidence. While Citroen has not yet detailed features, the Basalt X is likely to build on its predecessor’s strength in safety and cabin space. The Basalt X shadows the regular Basalt’s tech setup, offering a 10.2-inch touchscreen and a 7-inch digital driver display, along with auto AC, rear air vents, a wireless charger, adjustable under-thigh support for rear passengers, and ample practicality despite no sunroof. Original Basalt features that carry over include Citroën’s signature projector LED headlights, split DRLs, and distinctive HVAC toggle switches.

Safety

The Citroen Basalt has received a strong 4-star Bharat NCAP rating, scoring 26.19/32 in Adult Occupant Protection and 35.90/49 in Child Occupant Protection. It excelled in side-impact tests with full marks, supported by six airbags, ESC, ISOFIX child seat mounts, hill hold control, TPMS, and a reinforced high-strength steel body, making it one of the safer choices in its class.

Conclusion

Opening pre-bookings for the Basalt X signals Citroen’s intent to sustain momentum in a segment where volume remains modest. The broadening of engine and feature options may attract buyers seeking coupe SUV styling with more tech and comfort. However, its long-term success hinges on pricing competitiveness, showroom reach, and after-sales support areas, where Citroen continues to build its presence.
