A heavily camouflaged SUV, believed to be Nissan’s upcoming offering, has been spotted undergoing road tests in India. Though details remain under wraps, early observations suggest that the SUV shares its foundations with the latest-generation Renault Duster, which is yet to launch here but has already made its international debut. Nissan and Renault have a shared history of platform and component sharing, and this upcoming vehicle appears to continue that strategy. The test mule had similar proportions to the Duster, including its boxy stance, upright nose, and wide wheel arches, all of which hint at a rugged design direction.

What The Spy Shots Reveal So Far

The test vehicle was heavily disguised, yet a few key design elements were noticeable. The high-set bonnet, straight roofline, and chunky cladding pointed towards an SUV like stance. While the exact front fascia remained hidden, the silhouette strongly resembled that of the international Dacia Duster, suggesting Nissan’s may draw similar styling cues but with its own brand identity. The presence of roof rails, squared wheel arches, and slightly flared body panels add to its SUV character. At the rear, the vertical tail-lamp layout and flat tailgate hint at a spacious boot area. The tire profile appear to be tuned for a balance between comfort and durability, typical for this segment.

Built On A Shared Platform, Aiming For A Popular Segment

This upcoming SUV is likely based on the CMF-B platform, the same architecture that underpins the new Duster and other Renault-Nissan alliance models globally. This modular platform supports multiple powertrain options, including petrol and hybrid setups. The vehicle will most likely fall into the compact SUV segment, where it will go up against established rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder. With the Duster itself expected to be reintroduced in India under the Renault badge, Nissan’s version might differentiate itself through styling tweaks and feature set changes. However, both models are expected to share structural components and mechanicals, much like the current Magnite-Kiger pairing.

Nissan’s Strategy & What Lies Ahead

This new SUV could play a significant role in Nissan’s India strategy, which currently relies heavily on the Magnite for volume. The addition of a bigger, more premium SUV could help the company reach a wider audience, especially in a segment that has shown strong growth over the past few years. With local production planned under the alliance’s Chennai facility, pricing is also expected to be competitive. There is no official timeline for launch, but considering the state of the prototype, a debut sometime in 2026 can be expected. Once launched, the SUV could give Nissan a much-needed boost in its portfolio by offering buyers a fresh alternative in a crowded category.
