Nissan’s new 7-seater MPV, based on the Renault Triber, is set for a launch in FY2025. This vehicle is aimed at families looking for a practical and spacious option without straining their budgets.
Design
The initial design features of the MPV suggest a departure from traditional MPV styling. It showcases a prominent grille with chrome accents and LED daytime running lights. Nissan appears to have done a good job of distinguishing their 7-seater from the Triber with a distinct C-shaped grille and a silver strip running throughout the front fascia. The compact dimensions accommodate three rows of seating, showcasing an excellent use of cabin real estate. This design approach mirrors the successful elements of the Renault Triber, focusing on maximizing interior space.
Interior
Nissan Magnite Interior
Inside, the MPV is expected to offer a cabin very similar to the Magnite with a dual-tone dashboard and a touchscreen interface that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The flexible seating arrangement allows configurations from 2 to 7 seats, with removable third-row benches that can expand cargo capacity significantly. Key interior highlights may include rear air conditioning vents, ventilated seats, and a digital instrument cluster.
Powertrain
The vehicle will be powered by a 1.0-liter three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, providing adequate performance for urban commuting while focusing on fuel efficiency. It will likely not be very fun to drive, though, as the power figures are lacklustre, pushing just 71 BHP. By leveraging the Renault Triber’s architecture, Nissan aims to minimize development costs while entering the growing segment of budget MPVs. Currently, the Triber is the most affordable 7-seater MPV and has practically no competition in its segment.
Pricing
With expected pricing between ₹6-9 lakh, this 7-seater MPV could provide a much more comfortable alternative in a segment dominated by more utilitarian vehicles like the Maruti Eeco. We expect Nissan to be aggressive with this vehicle, as they are struggling globally and desperately need successful products. In India too, their X-Trail has been performing very poorly, with only the Magnite bringing in decent sales numbers.
