Nissan has struggled to get a grip on the Indian market. In the late 2000s, Nissan decided to launch the X-trail. It was a solid SUV which was ahead of its time. But back then the market was focused on hatchbacks and sedans. Nissan has now decided to relaunch the X-trail.
Details About The X-Trail
The powertrain options are quite slim. A 1.5L 3-cylinder turbo-petrol is the only engine available. It will come equipped with a mild-hybrid system. As for the transmission options, you get a CVT as standard. The lack of diesel options on such an SUV is astonishing. The performance figures seem pretty modest as well at 180 horsepower and 300 Newtonmetres. Fortunately, it is set to have a limited-slip differential to aid the existing safety features like the ABS, EBD and hill-start assist.
Aesthetically, there aren’t any remarkable features. Thanks to the 20-inch alloys and a long wheelbase, the X-trail has a decent road presence. It is only available as a 7-seater, unlike the global markets where you can opt for a 5-seater variant. The Indian version comes with 7 airbags as standard. In Euro NCAP, the X-trail received a satisfactory 5 stars in adult and child occupancy safety tests.
The X-trail has a pretty contemporary look but is still equipped with tons of features. A 360-degree parking camera, front sensors, an 8-inch infotainment screen, a 12-inch digital driver display and a panoramic sunroof are some of the notable features. It is yet to be known what level of ADAS the X-Trail comes equipped with.
How Long Until Bookings Commence?
The X-trail is set for Indian launch on 1st August. The pricing would start from 40 lakh rupees(ex-showroom) and can exceed the 45 lakh rupee mark. It would primarily compete with the Skoda Kodiaq, MG Gloster, Jeep Meridien and Toyota Fortuner. The competition is fierce and only time will tell if the X-Trail can hold its ground in this segment.
A few days ago, the X-trail was teased by Nissan India ahead. The Indian production unit is identical to the ones sold in the global market and we know what to expect before its launch. At first glance, there aren’t any aspects that stand out from its rivals but it is an attempt from Nissan to increase its popularity in India. The prospect seems good enough but it is highly doubtful to sell in high numbers.
