Nissan has launched a retrofit CNG kit for the Gravite MPV in India at an introductory price of Rs. 82,999. The new kit is available as a dealer-level fitment and can be installed through authorised Nissan dealerships. With rising fuel prices and increasing demand for alternative fuel options, Nissan aims to offer a more affordable running-cost solution for Gravite buyers across India.

Dual-Cylinder CNG Setup

The Nissan Gravite CNG kit uses two 25-litre CNG cylinders positioned vertically inside the boot area. Although this setup significantly reduces usable luggage capacity, the MPV continues to retain its seven-seat layout, which remains one of its key selling points in the segment.

Nissan states that the CNG system has received ICAT certification for safety and reliability standards in India.

Warranty & Availability

Nissan is offering a three-year or 1,00,000 KM third-party warranty on the CNG kit and related components. The system has been developed and quality-assured by Motozen.

Currently, the retrofit CNG package is available across 60 cities in 16 Indian states. Availability may gradually expand depending on demand and dealership readiness.

Engine & Transmission Details

The Gravite continues with its 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 72 BHP and 96 NM of torque. The engine is paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or an AMT transmission.

However, the retrofit CNG kit is expected to remain limited to manual variants. Nissan has not yet released official fuel-efficiency figures or revised power outputs for the CNG-equipped version.

Convenience & Practicality

Nissan has integrated a dedicated fuel-filling point beneath the standard fuel lid, improving convenience during CNG refueling. Despite losing boot space because of the vertically stacked cylinders, the Gravite still maintains its practical seven-seat cabin layout.

This configuration could appeal to fleet operators and budget-focused family buyers looking for lower running costs in urban and semi-urban markets.

Prices In India

The Nissan Gravite is currently priced between Rs. 5.65 lakh and Rs. 8.93 lakh, ex-showroom. Buyers opting for the retrofit CNG package will need to pay an additional Rs. 82,999 over the vehicle’s standard price.

Final on-road pricing may vary depending on state taxes, dealership charges, and registration costs.

Difference From Renault Triber CNG

The Gravite CNG setup differs significantly from the upcoming Renault Triber CNG showcased recently. Renault’s newer system uses underbody-mounted twin CNG tanks enabled through platform modifications and structural re-engineering.

In comparison, Nissan continues using the existing platform architecture, which requires placing the cylinders directly inside the luggage compartment.

Market Position & Rivals

The Nissan Gravite competes in the compact MPV segment against models such as the Renault Triber and Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. With the introduction of a retrofit CNG option, Nissan is targeting buyers prioritizing fuel economy and low operating costs.

The addition of a CNG variant could also help the Gravite improve its appeal in fleet and commercial mobility applications.

Conclusion

The Nissan Gravite CNG introduces an affordable alternative-fuel option for buyers seeking lower ownership costs in the MPV segment. While the dual-cylinder setup compromises boot space, the vehicle continues offering a seven-seat layout and practical urban usability. The new retrofit package also strengthens Nissan’s position in India’s expanding CNG passenger vehicle market.
