The Carnival is a premium MPV that was launched by Kia back in 2020. Kia discontinued the Carnival in the Indian markets by 2023 and has now decided to relaunch it in India. The older generation Carnival costed 30-40 lakh rupees and a significant price hike is expected for the latest generation.
Expected Powertrains And Features
A 3.5L V6 petrol and a 1.6L petrol-hybrid are the only options available in the US, while the diesel variant’s production has ceased for the 2025 models. The Carnival was sold with a standard 2.2L diesel engine in India. Rumors suggest that the 2.2L will also be used in the next generation Carnival which will transmit power via an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The design language has been tweaked over its predecessor and Kia has given it a sharper look. The cabin looks more plush than before while the seating arrangement remains identical with 7,9 and 11-seater options available. The equipment list has seen some improvements as well. A fully digital driver display, ADAS, 360-degree camera and a 12.3-inch infotainment display are some of the noticeable improvements over the older generation.
Launch Date And Expected Pricing?
The launch is set for October 2024. Moreover, the deliveries are expected to begin in the early days of November. The Carnival has no direct rivals. It is considered as a cheaper alternative to the luxurious Toyota Vellfire, which costs twice as much. Cheaper options to the Carnival includes the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Toyota Innova Hycross.
The improved looks and a longer equipment list comes at a high premium. Kia has decided to go the CBU route, which means that the early Carnival models will be imported and the Carnival will be subjected to heavy taxes. The price is expected to start at 50 lakh rupees. This is a significant hike in price compared to the previous generation. Kia might produce the Carnival locally by 2025, but it is yet to be confirmed by any reliable sources.
