Skoda is all set to announce prices for its 2nd-gen Kodiaq in the Indian market. The new Kodiaq will be sold in 2 variants, i.e, Sportline and Laurin and Klement (L&K). The new Kodiaq comes with refreshed exterior styling and a comprehensively updated interior, with added features and a slightly different layout. The Kodiaq will continue to be powered by the same 2-liter turbo petrol engine.
The design of the new Kodiaq can be termed as evolutionary, as it builds on the previous model’s design with slight tweaks, refreshing the looks of the car and making it look contemporary amongst today’s cars. The headlamp design continues with a split setup, with LED DRLs. The grill now gets illuminated portions. The tail lamps are connected by a light bar that extends across the width of the tailgate. The new Kodiaq now comes with 18-inch wheels as standard. The difference between the L&K and Sportline is mostly cosmetic, with the latter getting blacked-out treatment for elements such as the grill, D-pillar garnish, and rear bumper. In comparison, the L&K gets these elements finished in silver. The Sportline gets a different design for the alloy wheels.
On the inside, there is a new 13-inch free-floating touchscreen, which occupies the center space of the dashboard. The dashboard follows a winged design theme. The instrument cluster is a fully digital 10-inch unit. The steering wheel is a new 2-spoke unit with “Skoda” lettering on the horn pad. The AC unit gets 3 rotary controllers for altering the cabin temperature, fan speed, mode, etc. These dials are also configurable for other operations. When it comes to features, the Kodiaq gets 3-zone climate control air conditioning, powered front seats with heating, massage, and ventilation functions on the L&K model, a 360-degree camera, park assist, and a panoramic sunroof. The Sportline gets bucket seats, resulting in the omission of heating, ventilation, and massage functions.
The Kodiaq gets a 2-liter turbo petrol engine, which puts out 204 BHP and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. All wheel drive is part of the standard equipment.
The Kodiaq will continue to be locally assembled via the CKD route, and hence, one can expect it to be priced similarly to the outgoing version. The Kodiaq is estimated to be launched for Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, the Kodiaq will rival vehicles like the Jeep Meridian, the upcoming Volkswagen Tiguan R Line, and the Hyundai Tucson.
