1 min read

Volvo has unveiled a refreshed version of its flagship sedan, the S90, for the 2026 model year. The update brings subtle design changes, updated tech, and enhanced efficiency, aiming to keep the luxury sedan competitive in a fast-evolving market. While the core identity of the S90 remains intact, this facelift reflects Volvo’s continued focus on refinement, safety, and sustainable innovation. Let’s find out more about the new luxury sedan.

Design

The front fascia receives a refined look with a redesigned lower bumper and updated air intakes, complemented by a new chrome strip that adds sophistication. The signature “Thor’s Hammer” LED headlights are retained, now featuring more prominent LED elements for improved visibility and a modern aesthetic.

At the rear, the S90 gets a newly designed tail light and rear section that may not appeal to everyone but yet maintains the sleek design of the S90, which matches with the front LED DRLs of the sedan. The rear bumper and slope design have also been redesigned slightly to improve aerodynamics.

Interior

Inside, the 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system has been updated to improve responsiveness, and it can now be updated over the air. The physical screen itself has also been changed to give it a sleeker appeal than before. The S90 maintains its reputation for luxury and comfort. The cabin uses high-quality materials, including Nappa leather upholstery and a handcrafted crystal gear shifter by Orrefors, highlighting Swedish craftsmanship. The Bowers & Wilkins audio system delivers exceptional sound quality, enhancing the in-car experience. Technologically, the S90 is equipped with an advanced air purification system that monitors and displays cabin air quality, ensuring a healthy environment for occupants.

Powertrain

The car will be offered with a choice of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. Volvo has yet to release performance figures, but the PHEV’s electric range has been increased. A 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with an output of 253 BHP at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 350 Nm at 1,500 rpm is expected, along with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing and Rivals

Volvo India has not launched this vehicle in India yet, so actual pricing is unknown. We expect the price range to start from Rs. 70 Lakh (ex-showroom). This places it firmly as a competitor to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class & BMW 3 Series, and the Audi A6. It’s a safe option in the luxury sedan segment, as of course, it’s a Volvo. It’s a supremely safe and comfortable car.
