New Kia Carnival Revealed

Kia have launched the all new fourth generation Carnival in India, it has been priced at ₹63.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This latest MPV is available only in a single fully loaded Limousine trim that is powered by a sole diesel engine and initially it is only available as a seven seater.

Pricing

Like its predecessor, the new Carnival has been brought to India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) model, but its asking price is much higher than the previous-gen that topped out at around ₹34 lakh (ex-showroom). All that said, it does see a notable step up in size, features and the luxury quotient. At this price it does not have any direct rival and slots itself between the Toyota Innova Hycross (₹19.77-30.98 lakh) at one end and the Toyota Vellfire (₹1.22-1.32 crore) at the other. 

Exterior

The model brought to our shores is the facelift of the fourth generation, which has been on sale in international markets since November last year. It gets a boxier and sharper design compared to its predecessor and gets the brand’s signature ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, flanked by vertically stacked LED headlamps with L-shaped LED DRLs, as well as 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The L-motif continues at the rear, with the tail-lights being connected by an LED light bar.

Colors

It only gets two exterior paint shades: Glacier White Pearl and Fusion Black; And two dual tone theme interior options: Navy and Misty Gray, Tuscan and Umber. The cabin gets a 2+2+3 seating layout with the second row captain seats getting both a heating and a ventilation function, along with an extendable leg support.

Features

Gets dual 12.3-inch curved displays, a four spoke steering wheel, dual electric sunroofs, three zone climate control, an 11-inch heads up display, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, a 12-way powered driver’s seat and wireless phone charging pads. The HVAC controls are a mix of haptic touch surfaces and physical dials. It also comes with a powered tailgate and powered sliding rear doors.

Safety

Safety features include eight airbags, all four disc brakes, ESC, Hill Assist Control, a tyre pressure monitor, front, rear and side parking sensors, 360-degree cameras and an ADAS Level 2 suite that features Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning, Avoidance Assist, High Beam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control.

Powertrain

Has a sole 2.2 litre ‘smartstream’ turbo diesel engine that makes 193 HP, 441 N-m of torque and comes mated to an eight speed torque converter automatic gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.

Warranty

The automaker is offering three years of free mainenance, warranty and road side assistance. The manufacturer says they have already amassed over 3,000 bookings for the all new MPV and the bookings had opened on 16 September for ₹2 lakh.
